Ha! yeah Bowman finding a replacement for someone we weren't really looking to replace.. :)
(although I think Philps skating was actually OK)
Noticed Bowman is primarily signing guys that he has prior knowledge of.. which is worrying.. to me that's a sign that the radar isn't broadcasting very far.. and limited .. a sign the scouting is not confident looking outside their personal geographical comfort areas.. which looks to be midwest NCAA/USA .. unfortunately its a limited pool
Should be remembered that Samanski wasn't an Oiler/Bowman find.. he was put on the Oilers radar by Dallas Eakins who is coaching for Mannheim Germany, and who insisted Oilers look at him.. a total solid by Dallas. 👍🏻 Bowman et al did not find him.
Reminds me of the Eskimos under GM Machiocha .. who kept signing old Montreal Alouettes (he used to coach the Allouettes) .. just because the players were familiar to him and likely easier to go with someone you know personally instead of putting in the heavy scouting work required to build enough confidence in a new players abilities and talent.
The whole Broberg Holloway debacle was a mess of player talent assessment.. Broberg would be worth his weight in gold right now.. Holloway silver :)
