6 Cups

Arvidsson currently sitting at 39 points in 56 games in Boston, basically 0.7 ppg. Seems likely he will be at 45+ points by the end of the year, could crack 50 if everything breaks right.

This is the player he is: aggressive, injury-prone, and puts up good numbers as a secondary scorer. It's what he was in Nashville, Los Angeles, and now Boston. The only place he wasn't was in Edmonton, even though in theory, he would have been a perfect complimentary player.

The Oilers have been fortunate to bring in some value contract veterans who have had success around the league the past few seasons (based on Stanley Cup runs), but most have absolutely bombed here. How much of that is the team and usage? How much is them not carving out a role, mismanagement, and putting those players where they can succeed?

Right now the only Oilers forwards with more points than Arvidsson are: McDavid, Draisiatl, Nugent-Hopkins, and Hyman.

Nice to see him bounce back. He's definitely a guy that you always know is giving 100%.

Just was looking at his usage this season in Boston. He's had consistent linemates all year, Zacha and Middlestadt. He's played more with them already than he did with anyone in Edmonton.

Most common linemates here were Podz and Drai, which was basically cursed time.

Drai-Podz-Arvidsson xGF was 61% over ~260 minutes. Actual GF 55% with 0.984 PDO

His Boston line has xGF of 49% over 460 minutes. Actual GF 67% with 1.081 PDO, driven mainly by high SH%, specifically Zacha who is at 20% this year after shooting 10% last year.

Arviddson had 133 minutes of cursed ice time with Drai without Podz with 52% xGF and 30% actual GF with 0.913 PDO. Without either he was 52% xGF and 46% actual. He had a cursed 82 minutes with McDavid with 33%GF and 0.914 PDO.

We got something closer to the 19/20, 20/21 Arvidsson it seems, assisted by some bad luck. Not sure how his injuries last year compare to this year, he was definitely out for a period of time this year, but he absolutely exploded after he got back in the lineup for Boston and hasn't looked back. 10 points his first 20 games, then 29 points in 36 games after coming back.

Knob seemed to get scared off trying him with top guys because of some bad luck. Unlike Jeff Skinner who completely bombed in SJ this year and couldn't find any other team to sign him before the deadline, considering how hard Arvidsson works and how much effort he puts in defensively and how he was still getting >50% share of chances with everyone he played with here, he was definitely worth another look to see if his luck would turn. We basically signed a different version of him in Mangiapane which failed miserably. Mangy played worse here by almost every metric compared to Arvidsson last year.
