McLellan’s first season was a complete write off with low expectations as well.
Knob blows away all the other McDavid era coaches for time coached with real expectations, and the players have definitely tuned him out like they did all the other guys.
We are almost out of time to make a change this season. The only remarkable story of a late season coach firing I’ve seen/recalled was Larry Robinson taking over the devils, after Robbie Ftorek was fired, with 9 games left in the 2000 season and ending up winning the cup.

What is Larry doing these days?
I think there's got to be several others that changed DURING a season and then won the Cup...even if no other ones this late in the year.
I do think that Knoblauch doesn't look great lately - he falls in to the same traps. Overuses the "nuclear option" even when it's not really working. Over-values grit and PK play for depth forwards, so tends to prefer bottom six that just tries to play not to get scored on.
I don't know what they're trying to do with the defensive system this year but it's been so so bad. Given how challenged they've been and the fact that the majority of the players and goalies are failing in it, I'm inclined to think it's more system than personnel - and if that's the case, maybe a new coach with a better system is a good idea.
