And seem multiple claims that this exact same situation happened with Ovechkin and the refs listened to him and cancelled the penalty. Can’t find video of it though.

Good example.. Yeah I'm sure I've seen refs do the "no penalty on the play" announcment many times.. especially on puck over glass.. without a replay.. they just huddle and change their minds.. refs obviously have discretion to nullify their call if persuaded otherwise,.. doesn't look good on their resume though.. so they stick with it right or wrong.

Different sport, but NFL officials pick up their flag all the time. It’s silly to stick with what you know is a bad call.
