Too bad about Somamski getting robbed there, but I suppose it allowed Ek to get his hatty. I thought the kid looked pretty good in his limited minuted. Engaged. Of note - he didn't get credited with a SOG.
Still waiting to see something from Frederic - I'm really watching for him, and he is just such a nothing player out there. His 9th game with less than 8:00 of ice time. His 21st under 10:00.
52GP, 2G, 1A, 3PTS, -11. $31M well spent!!!
Nurse - I know some people may be over the top and there are always some that like to come to his defense, but he's just really not a smart dman. At 30, soon to be 31, he is what he is. He has flashes where he looks pretty good offensively - he shows off his skating and decent shot at times. But when it comes to defending, he really just does not seem to process the game very quickly at all, and makes so many questionable decisions. Time and time again he manages to turn a routine no pressure play into a sustained fire drill in our end. It'll never happen, but would love to see him tried as a winger.
Goals aside, Ekholm has looked a lot better the last month or so. I think his injury may still have been bothering him. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but whatever. A healthy and top of his game Ekholm is a boon for this club.
Anyway - big win against a team amazingly chasing us in the standings. Next up the Sharks for a chance at our first 3 game winning streak of the year...in the last days of January
