6 Cups

Pretty crazy.

Although, a completely washed up Henrique that can barely touch the puck 5v5, and Lazar as our bottom 6 centers is crazy bad. Possibly the worst we've been down the middle in the bottom 6 in the last decade.

Drai seems to be stuck with total dud wingers again. Not sure what he has been telling Podz, but Podz seems to think he doesn't have to play a simple game anymore. Endless overhandling pucks and long skates in the offensive zone to corner himself and just toss the puck back to the D.

Back to being a 1 line team.

I don't like the coaching to the 3rd and 4th lines. I don't think there's any expectation of goals - just a requirement not to get scored on. They're endlessly defending as a result because they don't really try to maintain offence, no one shows any creativity. We've also had multiple times now where depth players who've scored are immediately in the press box the following game. All of Philp, Hutson and Jones have had that happen, with Hutson & Jones both not just getting sat, but actually demoted to the AHL after scoring their goals.

I am generally more happy with Knoblauch than I have been with most prior coaches (I liked regular season Woodcroft, not so much the playoff version). But he needs to learn to trust younger players to play a role here and find a way to make them successful, because those old dogs have no bite any more. Unless they can find a way to actually contribute, we need guys like Henrique, Janmark, Frederic and Lazar to play less - and we need to get some of those young guys scoring at an NHL level. We don't need a lot - but it would be nice if some of our depth pieces were at at least a 25-30 point pace.

I wish we would have got a coach at least 1 time with some track record of getting a maximum out of depth players.

It's so sad that we were willing to pick up someone from the Chicago scandal and we get friggin Stan Bowman instead of Quenneville. We were willing to pay infinity dollars for the washed up Red Wings GM, and before that the washed up San Jose coach that was the master of the top heavy lineup and playoff failure, but we never went in for Babcock either.

So, we are left wondering forever, is it crappy GMing and we just have a bunch of turds as our depth? Is it the coach telling guys to not push for offense? Or a combination? Zero help from our garbage media as well to look into or analyze any of these things. They're too busy trying to kiss the org's butt to maintain their access.

Personally, I'd go with some of both, but I still lean more towards the GM not providing actual good players. We love our washed up forwards that have been on a multi-year downtrend that we hope will magically turn things around here, but all they do is continue their downtrend. Henrique, Mangianpane, Skinner, Arvidsson and some other meh players were our gambles the last couple years. Duds, all of them. Arvidsson still tries had, but he's still made of glass in Boston. Skinner did nothing on the zero expectations SJ team, and now he probably will get to play even less now that they are trying to make the playoffs for the first time in forever. Henrique can barely touch the puck 5v5. Mange looks behind the play all night messing up plays on any opportunity he gets. These guys are out there, they get near pucks in the offensive end still, but they can't do a thing with the puck. Are they coached to be anti-cluch with pocks and have no vision or playmaking? To lose board battles and have no idea how to properly get open. I feel like there is a limit on what you can get out of these kinds of players.

Have to admit, I haven't paid enough attention this year to fully judge how conservative or not our depth has played. I just look at the lineups and shrug my shoulders at what low expectations I would have for them. We do have some young guys, but they are very green. Not even ripe yet, like, getting first tastes of pro-hockey green for the guys that I actually would expect to make an impact eventually. That's nice to have, but I don't expect Howard or Hutson to be reliable NHL players yet. Savoie is getting his ice time, but looks out of his element a lot of the time still. We really need a actually useful 5v5 C in the bottom 6 for these kids to play with. We don't have one on this team unless Nuge maybe moves down.

Don't wanna go too hard excusing Knob, but I think once again management has been absolutelly horrible decisions that are keeping us from being able to create a good bottom 6 forward group. Way too much money being spent on useless that the coach has to juggle around because of the stupid contracts they have.
