| HamBlaster wrote on Fri, 05 December 2025 10:01 | Frederic was legitimately terrible. I remember a sequence in the game where he took a pass at our blue line on a breakout, and then skated the puck back into our zone with only one guy pressuring him... second guy comes in and they easily strip, and Seattle pressed in the zone after. What was he doing there? Why did he come back into our zone and give the puck away? That guy needs to screw his head on straight; he looks awwwwful so far.

Can we not just sit him and bring Howard back? Or give Clattenberg his minutes, assuming he's not blind by now?

Knoblauch said he had stitches above his eye. Hopefully it was just a near miss. The only thing I miss about the decade of darkness was seeing guys like him getting a chance to play in the NHL.

We should do a lot more of it, to be honest. It's a lack of understanding of where to spend cap space when you're overpaying for fourth liners because they're older guys who can PK. Better off getting younger players in those spots, and teaching them what they need to know. It's not like the Oilers are just rolling four lines most games anyhow, so having younger, cheaper players with upside as your depth helps in a number of ways. They're developing playing in the best league, they're leaving more development room available for the next tier on the farm, they often are better offensively than the specialists the Oilers prefer (did you hear it was over 40 games since Janmark's last regular season goal?) so better able to move up the lineup if needed. And they're cheaper which means you can spend more money elsewhere in the lineup - like a goalie for instance.
The team has Frederic at $3.85MM, Henrique at $3MM, Janmark at $1.45MM...Clattenburg is $828K. Howard is $950K. Quinn Hutson is $875K. Jarventie is $775K. The savings there is definitely enough to upgrade on goalie...

Vegas is a great example. Dorofeyev got a chance early and he's developed into a legit NHL'er and now they have undrafted Braeden Bowman who I had never heard of scoring at almost a ppg pace. Agreed that Cup teams need youth and ELC deals sprinkled throughout the lineup if you want a balanced team. Cheap vets are a crapshoot. The league is getting faster and when the wheels fall off a vet it is not usually a gradual process.
Janmark is our throwback to yesteryear. A modern day Tobey Petersen, but somehow secured a multi-year deal.
