Maybe playing with Nurse is a factor, as it has been for so many before. Hope him getting a retirement deal out of us isn't part of it. He has a bit of a reputation from his Red Wings days that hopefully he puts to rest.
Most of the rest, landing on that chart about what you would expect. Emberson maybe better than expected, but he gets the weakest comp. Frederic, holy crap dude.

Caveat has to be that those are Staples stats - so by definition highly flawed, like the man himself.
|
I believe those stats are derived from the game reviews of Staples, Leavins, and McCurdy (son) .. not one person.
|
Those fan stats line up pretty much with xGF at even strength.
D in order are:
Ekholm (55%)
Bouch (52%)
Emberson (49%)
Kulak (48%)
Nurse (44%)
Walman (42%)
Stecher was 33%
Only <50% zone start guys are Kulak (45%) and Emberson (36%). Other 4 guys all around 55% or more. Emberson I guess looks even more impressive considering that.
Regular forwards:
Henrique (53%)
McDavid (50%)
Drai (50%)
Podz (49%)
Savoie (48%)
Roslovic (48%)
Mangiapane (47%)
Tomasek (46%)
Nuge (44%)
Frederic (44%)
Hyman (43%)
Howard (43%)
Philip (36%)
Henrique is pretty low event, so must be getting a little boost from quality of chances for to put him out of whack with Staples and friends just counting individual events all equally.
Overall, some guys stand out, and there is a big bag of mediocre otherwise. This is by a mile our worst "analytics" performance to start a season in a long time. These guys are just not into it so far this year. Our mediocre results at this point of the season is kinda deserved.
Our sav% is crazy bad which makes our PDO quite low. Shooting % is middle of the pack, which was more of a factor in previous bad season starts. Previous crappy starts we would have bad luck with shooting and goaltending. Now we are getting pretty close to what our efforts deserve offensively but with stinkier goaltending.
