Crazy to think this team is 4th right now in total offense..... Right behind Anaheim with 77 goals..... The team is scoring like crazy, and with even average goaltending or an average defense we would be first in the division by a long shot.... I don't know what they have to address first (probably the defense, since I doubt they will ever get a good goaltender), but something needs to change.... Generally if you have a top 3 scoring team the way we do, it can overwrite some of the bad defense, or bad goaltending.... But clearly that is not happening this year. Skinner is having an off year (and even his best year, he still sucks), so having an off year for Skinner is horrendous, and probably puts him near a beer league goalie type status... And mix that with the defense we have, it's a recipe for disaster.
Our only hope now is the offense can score 5 or 6 every single night, and give us a chance to make playoffs, or eventually Skinner will find his game, and play better (but I just don't see that happening, he seems to get worse and worse each night). At this point I am not even sure what making playoffs will do, we will just get smoked by a team like Colorado in the first round anyway. Something has to give with this team, even an average goaltender right now would change things around. Or.... rebuild this defense, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Very frustrating watching this team right now. They have times they look like they get it going like against Carolina, but then have a game like last night where it's just simply embarrassing.
