Yeah, this deal is a total bust. Not because Frederic can't deliver... I think he can, if he's being utilized properly.
Freddy doesn't have top end speed, but he has good hands and can make plays. Knoblauch is looking like he's a terrible coach though this year and that he was carried by the assistants around him... and doesn't realize that Trent needs to be playing close to the net (like Hyman). The coaching staff inexplicably put him on the top line to start the season, saying he can skate with McDavid and Drai. No, no, he absolutely can't. He's also not your defensive safety valve on that line as he's not that agile.
He could be a poorer-man's version of Hyman for the second or third line and the second PP unit. I bet he gets 20 goals playing that way, and that would make the contract worth it. Right now, Knoblauch wants him to carry the puck and be a defensive specialist.... and that's totally not his game. Park him close to the opposing crease, Kris! Figure it out!
