At least he had four or five shots on net the previous game. But he was non-existent last night. I hope he isn't hiding an injury or anything like that.
I had a weird feeling about this blues game. It had a win written all over it, but we just sat back on the lead too much, and just didn't generate enough offensively to win the game. Such as life

This confuses me.
Big picture. McDavid is tied for second in the league in scoring, one back from the lead. You mentioned him shooting, he is 15th in the league in shots all while being tied for the league lead in assists. He is driving a huge part of the Oilers offense, as usual. He only has 3 goals but last night I saw that his shooting percentage is 7%. I doubt it will finish that low but he is shooting plenty
Smaller picture, you said he was non-existent last night. McDavid played over 20 mins. He drove the play up ice almost every shift, assisted on both goals and was dangerous numerous times. I didnt try and find shot attempts but he had at least two I can remember that were blocked and one that missed the net. I am guessing if you look up any fancy stats he was pretty dominant. There were a couple times early in the game where his back check broke up odd man rushes by the Blues.
Considering the team has a whole hasn't played well, it seems that both statistically and eye test, he has been really good.

McDavid's shots/60 on the PP are around his career average. But 5v5, his rate is down 40% from his 64 goal season. I think we all see him passing up on golden shooting opportunities and always favoring a pass whenever possible. It's frustrating is all. Especially after he said this year he wants to show he can score goals again.
His 5v5 production is also pretty bad so far, as is the rest of the teams. He's 136th in the league in 5v5 points. The Oilers are 27th in the league at 5v5 GF/60, which I'm shocked looking at right now after checking, lol.
Powerplay and OT are keeping this team alive.
Powerplay back to #1 in the NHL. At least we don't miss Gulutzan :) But, notice lately powerplay chances have dried up because we're good on the PP again. Lots of 1 or 2 powerplay games these last couple weeks. Last night we got 1 PP, and some blatant trips on our defense by the Blues ignored late in the game. Game management is demanding we fix our even strength game and McDavid has to be a huge part of that.
