I agree .. I'll be less likely to buy a "50/50" ticket if 30% is going to a 3rd party.. and only 20% going to the charity.. it should rightly be called a 50/20 ticket.. essentially you know you are statistically throwing your money away whenever you buy a ticket.. but in the back of your mind you always used to rationalize that half the money you lost would go to a charity.. not so now.

We get one of these stories every few years. Functionally nothing has change with the Oilers 50/50 and community foundation. It's still roughly the same as all the other big corporate run raffles and charities. Here's a story from 2018, which is somehow 7 years ago.

I'd much rather drop $20 bucks into the Junior C 50/50 than try to win a million from the Oilers. Ultimately it's always your money, do what you want with it. The Oilers, like the lotto corporations, offer big upside payoffs and questionable community returns. If you want to make your money help the most find the smallest shoestring charity you can. The best ones, in my opinion, are one person operations grinding for an extra hundred and fifty bucks to keep the lights on. They really appreciate the support and get more of my donation out to the people they're trying to help.

And since we're talking charity, I'm plugging what I care about the most. There's a suicide epidemic in this country right now. Don't be shy about talking to men about it.

Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.
