Lots of people said the same thing about Perry being undesirable and he just left as sort of a hero because of the way he played. I guess it would come down to if they are found guilty or not. I’m not condoning anything they’ve been accused of by any means just have to wait for the judgement. MacT was a legit killer and went on to become a player, coach, GM.

Pretty big difference. Corey Perry got drunk and aggressively hit on Chris Chelios' daughter. Definitely a far from ideal situation, but not exactly criminal.
What Hart & company did is far worse and the details are all out there. It's up to the judge to decide if there's enough evidence to convict but what they did isn't in question, nor is the fact that the girl wasn't okay with it, and that even the players were pretty uncomfortable about it and texted each other afterwards, with McLeod texting the girl repeatedly to try to make sure they didn't get in trouble.
The fact that the players felt they needed to film the girl saying she consented suggests that there was no point where they didn't think that this was potentially problematic behaviour.
Getting a conviction takes a high threshold on burden of proof, and things like consent are really complicated to judge years later - but that doesn't mean that the girl doesn't truly feel victimized or that the players knowingly did something even they felt could be seen as odious.
I put this one more along the lines of Jake Virtanen than Corey Perry. And it sickened me to see the Oilers give Virtanen a shot after that.

I wasn’t equating the two scenarios and I’m not condoning illegal or otherwise morally corrupted behaviour. I was just pointing out that it’s not unheard of for a team to take a chance on a fallen star. I admittedly don’t know the ins and outs of the court case or the extent of Perry’s incident. I was just saying it wouldn’t be the first time someone has been forgiven after an egregious act and gone on to be popular and dare I say beloved by fans, media and the like. Im not a lawyer and I don’t play on on TV.
