Worst contract from the outset in Oilers history?
Big overpay on term and dollar, no movement clause to boot. The trifecta of terrible.

Oh man - there's so many contenders for worst contract. This one has plenty of potential to be among the worst, but things would have to derail immediately for it to get there.
Here's the three that immediately jump to mind:
That last Kassian one was for $3.2MM for four years (greater % of the cap than this) and he was in the midst of a career high 34-point season. The Oilers needed to pay a 2nd and 3rd round pick and swap back three spots in the first round in order to get rid of this contract after two years. Kassian still ended up getting bought out by the Coyotes before the final season. Worth noting - we're still paying for this. The Devils will use our 2nd round pick tomorrow (acquired from Utah for John Marino) to complete this trade.
Mark Fayne at $3.625MM for four years has to be considered too. That contract was signed 11 years ago so it represented a really outsized percentage of the cap compared to Frederic's. He only played two seasons with the team before getting buried in the minors and never played in the NHL again. He had 17 points in 147 games with the team - so almost $1MM per point!
My personal pick for worst ever is Jack Campbell. 5 years, $5MM per season. He only appeared in 41 regular season and four playoff games before getting buried and then bought out. His numbers were of course awful.
