Frederic's cap hit is only going up ~1.5 million. It's not as absurd as we think. Shipping Kane out for nothing does free up some space the Oilers will desperately need soon.

This is tough, cause I do think Bowman is thinking Frederic will be that "toughness". And we may pay out the nose for it. Really wish we had more understanding of this ankle injury.
It's possible he comes back 100% next year, but then I still struggle to understand what past performance we are going on that justifies this guy on a long term deal. I see 1 lucky year as a 13 min guy on a powerhouse team where the lower guys could get a lot of easy ice time and leeway because the team was so top loaded. Just a crazy gamble if we sign him for 3+ years.
I wish so much that Nurse could add some intimidation to his game. Need to be able to anticipate and get ahead of the play to land big hits though. Reading the play and anticipating where players will go is just not his strength at all. Think it's just gonna be routine hits on guys already set protecting a puck on the boards for the rest of Darnell's career.
