I don't hate having Frederic in the short term (although I disagree with the term and the dollars being paid to him). When not playing on a wonky ankle, he does hit and fight and can put up a little bit of offence. He's also only 27 compared to Kane who'll be 34 this summer.

I don't think we lose much between the two and Frederic is $1.3MM cheaper, seven years younger, and from everything I've heard is good in the dressing room, instead of Kane's constant pouting and brooding.

Also, even banged up, Frederic wasn't nearly as hopeless at advancing the puck out of our zone. Kane is really poor at fielding pucks off the boards on the ring around play, and between that and his atrocious passing, he regularly turned the puck over in our own zone on in transition. He's also never been super dedicated to playing defence. Add to that all the stupid penalties, and then his reputational penalties on top of that and trading him is straight up addition by subtraction.
