Kind of crazy how little value players have at certain times of the year. Kane is a real NHL player making not that much money (compared to, say, Frederic). The Canucks got him and his expiring contract for nothing.
My worry is the divisional rival thing. Canucks are a year removed from winning the division and probably have a better goalie.

Very true. If the Canucks are sellers at the deadline I bet they get at least a 2nd rounder for him at the deadline. Maybe a 1st if he is having a good season.
There is a lot to like about Kane's game and he was a difference maker in the playoffs. Unfortunately, that was a bad difference in the Stanley Cup finals where I think he was given less leeway due to his reputation (even though players with equally bad reputations on the other end of the ice seemed to get a pass). It hurts to lose a legit NHL player, but he didn't even play during the season last year and we seemed to get by ok.
Kane is from Vancouver and played his junior hockey there, so I can't imagine he is sad about this trade. Maybe this is encouragement for him to play along with the current investigation the NHL Has on the Oilers.
We'll see how he gets along with Pettersson there.
