Oilers PK is short bus special in this series. Killed 2 of 5 tonight. I think other than the 5 vs 3 it's been atrocious.

Weren't gonna win with Holland either. Probably wouldn't have even spent Kane's LTIR money. I'd say we miss competent GMing period, but I don't even remember what that looks like. Got close to a miracle last year taking McDrai for granted, but still fell short because of crap GMing.
It's honestly hard to have any respect for the team the Oilers have built when you take a look at how other teams have rebuilt without gifts of generational talents, like Florida, and LA. Just piece by piece making good moves, via the draft and trades, to incrementally add players that perfectly fit with the overall vision of the team. We still just grab at the first shiny things we see and blow our cap space ASAP.

Other than one year in 2005-06, it's hard to think of any time since Sather that the Oilers have been competently managed. I'll once again express my frustration that they at no point addressed the glaring issues in goalie as a dozen other goalies moved in the last year - however, at this point the management is unable to impact things further this year so I'll hold off on commenting on them any further than that right now.
Coaching is going to be really tested right now. The Kings have a good game plan for both the penalty kill and the powerplay and they've eaten us alive at special teams. We again seem to have a team waiting for 97 and 29 to save them rather than trying themselves to create something. We do have a couple of depth goals, but I'd like them to be more consistently a threat.
Is Hyman hurt? He looks ineffective right now and easily knocked over. He almost had a goal on the early PP last night (would kill to see our goalies make a save like that), but otherwise he's been just a shadow of himself for any games he's played in the last month. It would be really useful if he and Nugent-Hopkins were able to have a big game or two.
I still would have Jeff Skinner in the lineup, with most likely Janmark coming out. Janmark is a good PK guy, but I mean, that's all he brings. Skinner's production with even limited minutes this year was still good.
Two bad games, around .800 sv% and over 5.5 GAA, and I am now more easily convinced on sitting Skinner and letting him reset while praying that Pickard can hold the fort. Ugly to have to sit your starter in the third game of the playoffs for a back-up goalie though, and Skinner is going to have to find a way to bounce back. We're just not going to be able to rely on Pickard for four rounds. We need to have a few saves here.
Ultimately though other than making some system tweaks and adjusting to what the Kings are doing, we can't panic yet. It is only Game 3, and we haven't yet lost a game at home. We have the best player in the world and another who may win the Hart this year. We have shown we can score in bunches on Kuemper. In 2006, the San Jose series looked like men against boys for the first two games...and then the Oilers dominated the rest of the way, winning in six. We just need to do the same here.
I think some of the wrist-slitting here and around the city is a little premature.
"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
