Overall, I have liked Walman and I’ve never been a Fowler fan. Are we just piling on because we are completely decimated by injuries right now and need to project on to someone?
Plus Fowler came a bigger cap hit and is older. I couldn’t imagine the outrage if we made that deal.

It's the Oiler fan way. Misdirected anger, blame and scapegoating gets in the way a lot of the time.
Walman has been inconsistent. Overall I am not a big fan but he does bring some good things and I think he has a place on a successful team.
I am with you on Fowler, I want no part of him, at his cap hit.

Complaining about a poorly constructed D group doesn’t need like misdirected anger to me. Just pointing out what’s been going on for over a decade and a big part of the continued waste of a generational players career (and a borderline generational one at the same time).
Fowler is playing like a legit top pair D and helped reboot the Blues season again. 1 year left on his deal, being willing to give a first instead of second probably buys some cap retention. A gamble for sure if a solid player spending years on a toilet team still has his old game left, but sure looked like he does. Good pro scouting could probably make a good educated call on that, but we don’t have such people in our org, clearly.
Oh well though, just and example in a sea of a decade of mismanagement. Endless possibilities that could have been done better and even more that couldn’t be done because of the endless poor decisions that have handicapped us.

To clarify, my generalized comment wasn't targeting you. I often enjoy your takes, both those I agree and disagree with.
RE; Fowler and Walman.
I have never like Fowler, thought he was overhyped based on spells of good play that somehow overshadows, often longer, spells of bad play.
I mentioned above that I am not a huge Walman fan but he is 3.1 AAV cheaper than Fowler.
For discussions sake let's say the Oilers got Fowler but not Walman. Where would you suggest the cap room come from?
