running Pickard through the playoffs out of anything less than absolute necessity would be insanity.

But going with one of the worst goalies in NHL playoff history for the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row is "sane"?

Skinner got the team to the final last year, and has won at least one round in his three seasons as the #1 goalie. How is he one of the worst in playoff history? He may not be a Vezina candidate, but he's hardly one of the worst in history.

You're right - had nothing to do with McDavid and Bouchard setting records.

To answer your question on how is he one of the worst in playoff history:

Of all goalies who have played as many games as him this century, he is dead last in save% with .894 and 4th worst in GAA. Those are counting numbers.

Watching the games - he lets it absolute stinkers more than any goalie I ever remember watching. Absolute back breakers. He got pulled 4 times 2 years ago, and once last year. When Pickard came in (and even Campbell the year before), they were markedly better than Skinner. Both by the numbers and with the eye test.

I'm not saying Pickard is a safe bet to put the team on his back and lead his team to the Cup. But I am saying it's about an even odds bet that that Skinner will have a sub .900 game (18 games below .900, 17 above). Our record when we get at least .900, 14-3. Sub .900, 5-13.

If this was a guy who has shown at some point that he could handle the workload and play at an elite level for more than a few games in a row, I could understand the faith in him. But he's never shown than. Quite the opposite.
