Gretzky also had a lockout wipe out half a season (same as OV) and he missed almost a full year due to that Gary Suter's cheap hit in the 1991 Canada Cup. He also wasn't a raging dope fiend with the full power of the Russian Olympic program behind him helping him cheat and get away with it.

Now you have a PED head breaking the all time great's record.. I doubt Gretzky ever saw the inside of a weight room in his life.. and if any drugs were involved with Wayne, they most likely were of the performance diminishing variety.. PDD's .. lol

I dont know. Being so alert you can hear a fly fart at 4 blocks away must enhance play a little. Fuhr could probably read the commissioners signature on the pucks coming at him. Sounds like doping must be wide spread if that's the NHLs drug testing policy. Which begs the question, "if everyone is doing it is anyone really cheating".
I had friend in competitive body building in the late 80's. Everyone was on the juice. In his words only a fool would be caught by a surprise test and only a complete moron would fail an announced test. The knowledge he had about biology he could have been a chemist for knowing how to mask and hide things. They would even catheter clean piss into their bladders to pass a test. I dont see how the NHL could test anymore then they do without the NHLPA crying foul about it to be honest. I don't think it would matter because pro athletes can afford people with knowledge how to hide the crime. Hell 300 pound freaks of nature hammering pucks through the boards would probably raise ratings.
All that said these drugs do nothing to help with eye hand coordination, positioning, hockey sense or many of the other skills that make a elite scorer.
