Didn't know Lyon is 32. Thought he was a younger guy. Everyone is raving about him now after beating us, like making the Oilers look like they need a billion shots to score is a great accomplishment :)
Was curious if any of these guys stand out this year in goals saved above average. Vejmelka leads the group by a decent margin. 13th in the league among at least semi-regular playing goalies. What the heck, get him!

Ship sailed on Vejmelka. Utah managed to stay close to a playoff spot, largely thanks to Vejmelka, and the org and players are loving their inaugural season so much Vejmelka went on record saying he now wants to sign long term with the Hockey Club. Snooze you lose. Not sure what realistically is out there for a deadline add that makes sense. We're probably going for another playoff run with Skinner and Pickard.

It just feels like the Oilers REALLY would prefer not to trade for a goalie. They've tried really hard to bury their head in the sand on this, and they haven't made any real attempts to address it during the season as other teams have made moves.
I'm not sold on the guy Colorado picked up, but he does seem to be significantly better than the train wreck they started the year with. There's been lots of these guys available but we haven't heard any suggestion that the Oilers were part of any discussions. (Although I'm always happiest if we're talking to teams but not letting media guys know that we are - so maybe there's a small chance they're doing the right thing there).
There's almost no one on the UFA list worth picking up, which means that the team will have to be creative now to solve this issue. We've seen a very 2006-like year though from the team. They are one of the better teams in the league but leaky netminding costs us a lot of games. To be sure, there are some other things to tighten up, but this feels like Conklin/Markkanen duo in net for us. We need to get our Roloson.
At BARE MINIMUM, we need to get a goalie who at least challenges Skinner for the top job. That forces him to rise to the challenge and hang on to that job, or it gives us someone we could potentially fall back on and who you could expect can still win you playoff rounds.
Pickard seems like a great guy, but he's a clear #2, and with Skinner's track record, we may need someone who can be the #1 if we need him. The price for netminders has been pretty low this year, so I see no good excuse for the team not to address it.

Conklin and Markkanen is a pretty perfect comparison. Where is Kevin Lowe when we need him?
