If they had simply not allowed him to play one single game of the previous season, he would have been exempt from offer sheets. When you're a GM paid 5 million per year, with a staff as well paid as Oilers front office, you have to know that. Even if it's a tiny risk, it was a completely avoidable risk if they knew, or incompetent management if they missed it.
So glad he's gone. I sure hope Bowman shows better judgement.

What happens if we forced him to play in the AHL all year though? He probably demands a trade and outright refuses to extend here. Maybe no offer sheet comes, but we probably get the same return we just got for him with the OS in a trade. He would look like a weak almost failed prospect.
If we did believe in this player, we should have invested a lot more time into him and had a better relationship. I still think the failing on both these guys roots back to us drafting them in the 1st place :) Holloway a little less of a bad move, he was ranked around where we took him and nothing spectacular was obviously there at the pick.
I still don't really like the hockey IQ of either player. I think both were classic Oiler picks of physical attributes (speed) over brains. Both can be replaced for at or lower than what St Louis gave them, and we probably already did that with Holloway.
