As an Oilers fans, I am of course bias but trying to look objectively, I feel like a lot more things have to go right for the Canucks to win vs the Oilers.
- While you always need good goaltending, the Oilers didn't win because of Skinner. They just needed Skinner to decent and not lose them games. Where as the Canucks. They were a goal post away from being down in the series and probably should have lost as they relied heavily on their goalie. There were large stretches where Nashville looked to be the better team. When your best center is O'Reily. I like him a lot but he's not an elite scorer like McD or Leon. So I think the Canucks need their goalies to be really good to have a chance.
- Special teams. The Oilers have the best PP in a very long time. The Kings had the second best PK in the NHL and the Oilers shredded it. Where as the Canucks was middle of the pack like the Oilers. So the Canucks need to shut the Oilers PP down to have a chance to win.
- Top 6. The Oilers have a superior top 6. Miller and Petterson are very good centers but not as good as McD and Leon. Then you look at the Oilers wingers and even without Henrique, the Oilers top 6 wingers are better. So the Canucks need the Oilers big guns to go quiet to win.
- Defensively. Since Knoblaugh took over, the Oilers are a very good defensive team. So the Canucks need the Oilers to abandon their defensive structure and be sloppy with the puck.
So in my opinion, the Canucks need a lot of things to go their way to win and the Oilers to play poorly. If the Oilers play reasonably well and Skinner isn't a reason they lose, the should beat the Canucks.
