It's a paper transaction to clear extra cap space. He won't play so all he does is take up cap space.

And I believe once he clears they can move up and down without having to go through waivers again for 30 days. I may misinterpreted that, but the Oilers will be dollar in, dollar out if they make any additions for the rest of the regular season

I think that is correct. Once a player gets waived and if he doesn't get claimed, he can be called up and sent down for a period of time.
I can't see any team claiming Gagner.

15 points in 27 games in limited minutes? That's a valuable depth player for a team hoping for a deep run.
I hope you're right and no one claims him, but it's certainly a non-zero chance. Maybe we can get his agent to tell people he wouldn't report or something to scare them off...

I am sure I am wrong. I fully admit I haven't personally tracked Gagner's points this year like I bet you have. I know you have told me the Oilers are liars so I didn't go to their site. I went to the NHL site and it says Gagner only has 10 pts in 27 games (5 goals, 5 assists) not the 15 you listed. But in saying that, knowing you are much more informed than anyone who runs the league, I am sure those stats are wrong as well and yours are right.

Thank you for catching my error. This is what happens when you go by memory and don't look things up. I think my point still stands though.
I'm not predicting whether he'll get claimed or not. I just said it's a non-zero chance that he does. It would be disappointing if he does go. If I was running the team, I'd think Gagner had more value than Brown or Ryan and I'd have probably put them up first given the pair have 16 total points in 109 games worth of action.
