So you are saying Cogliano is a liar then? He literally did a LIVE radio interview with Gregor that 1000's of people heard, I repeated what he said that he thought he should be playing in a certain spot and doing certain things and he wouldn't accept anything less but it's the teams fault they couldn't make a grown ass man bend to their will. OK then.

The player is wrong and Adam is right. I stand corrected once again Adam. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways once again.

You are welcome.

As for players, they know what they're expected to say, and they're set up by questions from their interviewers. There's an expected way these things are always answered, and it's only notable when people go against that grain.

Some examples? Kadri had "tough love" from Dallas Eakins with the Toronto Marlies. It's unlikely it had anything to do with his future success. Eakins tried the same tricks with Yakupov and it just stripped the kid of confidence and ruined the prospect. Yet, Dallas Eakins has specifically said that he bears some responsibility for Kadri's post-Eakins success. Kadri, when asked about it, hasn't said much but what he has said was taking the path of least resistance and saying it was beneficial to him. Meanwhile, when asked years later about his experience with Pat Burns doing essentially the same thing to him as a rookie, Joe Thornton scoffed and said he didn't think he learned much sitting on his ass. He was more kind in his words after Burns' passing, but it was notable when he put lie to the trope.

There's a similar "change of scenery" trope in hockey coverage. People are often asked about why they're successful in their stops after leaving a market where they had some challenges (although, Cogliano didn't really have much actual challenges here - he had a relatively successful career as an Oiler during a time when the team just flat out sucked). The expected answer is always that the change was needed, and that they just developed more after that move. Is it true? Usually not.

Cogliano is 35 yrs old, he's in his 16th season in the NHL. He's played in 1169 games in the NHL, 328 with the Oilers. So 11 seasons and 841 games have been playing not part of the Oilers. So the majority of his career he's not been an Oiler. So what value would he get from lying?

We have seen it time and time again from all kinds of players year after year who for whatever reason do not make it work for their first team. Then they get traded and it clicks. But this is an Oilers thing of course.

I don't even know why I bother answering anything you say because it's the same crap and it's a complete waste of my time because I know the outcome. You are right, I am wrong no matter what. I repeat a direct quote from someone, you tell me the quote is wrong or he didn't mean it that way or the player is lying. I could repeated the documented score of the game and you'd tell me I was wrong. You must be a real treat at parties correcting everyone about every topic.

There is no point in debating with you about anything. Congratulations Adam, you won. You beat me. I give up!

It's not lying. Cogliano isn't pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. He's just feeding the narrative because it's the path of least resistance. The hockey world is really small, and there's no point in burning bridges, especially not when it's people who are well connected in hockey management. If you do, it hurts your chances of finding the next landing spot, or in finding a job after hockey.

It's really rare to hear someone carve a team who traded them, or express any anger or disappointment about a team or coach or management, no matter how bad it was, or how poorly their development path was laid out. It's one of the reasons it was so notable that there were low-level criticisms of Eakins and his practices from Hemsky, Smid and others as they left. The fact there was any criticism spoke volumes.

Cogliano is years removed from Edmonton. He has had greater success in the time since he left. He probably thinks it was a gong show here, because it was for his whole time here, and the guys who dealt him literally believed that they'd upgraded in getting Eric Belanger. But what does it benefit him to say that? It's more risky, because slagging Quinn, MacTavish, Lowe, Tambellini might just piss off people. So you say "I really grew after that, and I found a role where I can be successful." And when Gregor asks a stupid question about whether he needed to leave Edmonton to get there, he just says, "sure."

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
