Big, much needed win for the Oilers. I didn't get to watch the first 10 mins but it sounds like they played extremely tight and were pressing which leads to mistakes when you press but I guess when you have lost 6 in a row and nothing is going right, I could see that. BUT they got a few big saves and a break which they haven't been getting, got a goal, settled down and took it to the Jackets.
I thought Skinner played well. He came up with some big saves but most importantly, big saves at key times.
JP was very good.
McD seemed to have a little more juice than he's had in a long time.
I am digging Foegele in the top 6. The guy just works. got speed, a little size. Throws the odd hit, gets shots. I'd give him a longer look there. He got the empty netter which maybe lets him relax a little as he was snake bitten.
I thought thought the Ryan line was excellent. A couple of guys who needed goals, scored. I thought Kassian had a good game.
Perlini was excellent. He looked like a guy who left the NHL to play in Europe, came back this year, maybe subconsciously took it for granted a little, got sent down to the AHL which maybe was a wake up call that this could be it, got an opportunity thanks to covid and made good at least for 1 game. Goal, assist, 7 shots, 2 hits in just over 10 min. That's exactly how a bottom 6 guy should play and I have been harping on other guys to do. You can't going to get a ton of mins, so when you do, you have to play like your life depended on it and do something. He bought himself another game.
I thought the Turris line was meh. Didn't accomplish much. Turris, Benson need to take what Perlini did and do the same. You aren't going to get a ton of minutes so when you do get on, make it count.
The Leon line didn't do much again. Leon was just OK. Nuge was just OK. Yamo invisible again. The line was on for both goals. Yamo playing a big role in the second goal against.
Yamo needs to take a LONG look in the mirror and look what Perlini did. No shots in 7 games and he got 15 mins of ice time. That's pathetic. Perlini proved that you do not need to be with the current league leader in points, scoring champ and MVP to generate any kind of offensive chance. I get it's 1 game but I would give Perlini a look on Leon's line. For 5 reasons.
First, enough is enough with Yamo. Playing in the Oilers top 6 with one of the best players in the world is not a right, its a privilege. He needs a wake up call. He's been on that line for 2 seasons now doing nothing. A demotion is in order, maybe a seat in the pressbox. If they want to be a good team, you can't have guys doing nothing in the line up game after game. There has to be a consequence.
Second. When you are in the top 6 of a team, especially when you are playing with a guy as good as Leon, you have to produce. He's not even getting shots on goal.
Third. Leon could use a shooter on that line. Nuge is not a natural shooter, Yamo doesn't have a shot. When you have maybe the best passer in the NHL on your team, he needs someone who can shoot.
Fourth. Putting someone who's hungry on a line can bring energy to other guys. Yamo is not hungry what so ever. Time for a change.
