I am very happy with the result especially given the defense the Oilers had to play. In my opinion, they had
- 1 dman who could play top 4 mins as a #4 on NHL teams in Barrie but defense isn't his strong suit.
- 1 dman in Russell who is probably a #6 on a lot of NHL teams.
- 1 dman in Lagesson who's an NHL tweener and could at best be a#7 at but I am not sure full time.
- 1 rookie dman in Bouchard who's an NHL dman but is going through a real rough patch and should be playing in the 3rd pairing.
- 1 20 yr old rookie to North American hockey in Broberg who looks to have the potential to be a good one but should spend the whole year in the AHL.
- 1 older rooked to North American hockey in Nemo who should be in the AHL the whole year and who knows if he will be an NHLer.

The vet Pens team took advantage of the Oilers defense but Koskinen was up for the task and the Oilers took advantage of their chances.

I thought the Oilers giving Russell that shot blocking award was pretty freaking classy and I am sure it was appreciated by the guys in the room for the team doing that. Whether you like the player or not, I hope the fans in attendance showed the guy some respect.

They seemed to be quite appreciative on the broadcast, though I'm sure Adam took the opportunity to use the "facilities" while he was being celebrated fishing

He got a standing ovation. I stood and clapped too. Nice for the player to get that recognition, whether it's a dubious honour or not. There was no booing and as far as I saw, no one tried to "ruin it" for him.

No one sees my twitter, so it really doesn't matter what I say there. It's on total lock down and I rarely tweet.

I don't think that Russell is above criticism, and so unless people are saying offensive things, or tagging him and his family, then I can't really get upset about that. I don't know what the furor is about though, so can't comment on that much.

I think he's a very limited defenceman, and that his limitations are a big part of why he's not the block record holder. He's still an Oiler though and I don't cheer against him, even if I think the team probably should have cut bait there long ago.

Cut bait at the previous price point, sure, there wasn't anything that would really justify that deal. They could do worse at $1.25 mil, now.
