Honestly, the AAV and term are less than I expected. For all those thinking he was going to cash in on a major payday (myself included), he really didn't. I'm curious if there were better offers out there, but this was a good fit for both the player and the team. Maybe he was just happy here.
We locked up the league's top-scoring defenseman for $4.5M and 3 years. Lots to be happy about with this, the term and cap were both right. It's not an anchor at all, and very likely we will get good value from this deal.

Did he even get to the point of looking at other offers? Maybe stuff is exchanged in secret, but no teams were supposed to talk to him or his agent until ~30 mins after it was announced he signed with us.
