So.. apparently the Oilers have lost the rights to Blumel, they needed to sign him to a contract by June 1st, he's now signed a contract with HC Dynamo Pardubice, and unrestricted for future NHL. Too bad he was trending well.. https://oilersnation.com/2021/06/23/edmonton-oilers-lose-rig hts-to-matej-blumel-after-june-deadline/ Blumel was signed out of the USHL, so apparently the time span to sign a contract before losing rights is lower than NCAA, Europe, or CHL.. Pretty bush league if Oilers forgot the date ... like put a "reminder" notice on your Outlook calendar.. or worse.. were unaware of this USHL loop hole.

I saw on twitter that Stauffer was defending this, saying the Oilers basically decided not to sign him:
