Bouchard, Lagesson, Shore, Chiasson, P Russell out for a good workout this morning, all likely out tonight. Koskinen on the ice working with them, so as expected Smith looks to be starting.
So I guess we’re back to double the Russell in the lineup tonight. Le sigh.

I agree, I want Bouchard to be playing. But I think it's unfair to expect a rookie to play his offside when he is just starting out. That's just 1 more obstacle he has to worry about. So who would you either take out or switch to the left? Barrie, Bear, Larsson. I think all 3 of those need to be in the line up so someone has to switch and I don't see a good option to do it.

Counterpoint: If the rookie is ever going to be able to play both sides, he needs actual gameday experience and the middle of the regular season is about as safe as it can get.

I agree, it could be valuable. I just don't think it's a fair to make rookie Bouchard in basically game 12 of his NHL career have to play on his offside. I want him to succeed and I am loving how the Oilers are FINALLY allowing these guys the opportunity to properly develop vs throwing them into the deep end holding an anchor then being shocked they sink. I think Bouchard will be on the Oilers right side next season in their top 4, running their PP and I see him excelling so I worry making him play his offside so early in his career could hurt that. There are so many spreadsheet boys saying how bad of an idea it is to play a dman on his offside, so I don't see why it wouldn't apply to Bouchard. It's a tricky situation because I see the Oilers having 7 legit decent to very good NHL dmen in Nurse, Larsson, Barrie, Jones, Bear, Lagesson and Bouchard. The problem is that 4 of them are pretty inexperienced and starting their NHL careers so in my opinion, you want to put them in as many good situations as you can.
