I'd expect Smith to get the start and it's a much needed start. I am not a Smith fan but Koskinen is way better when there is a legit threat of someone taking starts from him. Tippet has a history with Smith, he likes Smith so he will give Smith starts.

I was thinking they start Smith tomorrow and give Koskinen a chance to rebound from Saturday’s crap show.

Yeah, from the twitter world it looks as though Smith is the planned starter tonight (first off ice for skate this am).
Also, Haaaaaas did not participate (again). Sigh.

I don't mean to make this sound like an excuse for Kostko, but I wonder how he feels knowing that his coach is always going to be looking for any opportunity/excuse to play the other guy.
Maybe it's a motivator for Kostko like RDO suggests. But it must also be pretty annoying knowing the bias is hovering over the job.

Agreed, but with his performance Saturday, despite starting all but 1 game so far for reasons out of his control, he allowed the door to be open for Smith to take the reigns. The Oilers need one of them to make a save. And frankly, at this point, I don’t care which one it is. If it’s Smith, great, if it’s Koski, great. If it’s neither? We’re not making playoffs.
