What the heck do you people have against heart and soul Oiler Ryan Smyth. This whole decade+ of darkness began because we traded him. He's back for a year with the Org and we get to the 2nd round of the playoffs. He leaves, the team tanks.

I love me some Smytty but he was retired almost 3 years before the 2016-2017 Playoffs.

Ugh.
If we retire #94, we may as well just add another stupid looking banner for the fans - maybe a second #7 to the rafters? - and put "EDMONTON" over the Oilers symbol, just in case anyone can't figure that part out.

He came back to help with development or some crap for 16/17. His leadership aura obviously affected the team and helped us have our best season since the 80's.
Then he left that summer, house up for sale, and here we are again, in the toilet.

Haha...helping is a bit of a stretch. Apparently he wanted to work with prospects, but he didn't want to travel and pretty much none of the prospects were here so I don't think it was a particularly successful marriage. Such a shame though, given all the stumping Matheson did to try to get him a job...
