Wow, some good players not afraid to show their discontent these days. Beginning of the end for Tampa's dominance?

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sources-nikita-kucherov -tells-lightning-he-wont-re-sign-asks-for-trade/

Quote:

According to multiple sources, Nikita Kucherov has informed both his teammates and the Lightning organization that he will not be re-signing with Tampa Bay and would like to be traded.

The exact reasons are unclear at this point, but Kucherov — the NHL’s reigning MVP — is in the final season of an eight-year, $76-million contract. Last week, he passed Steven Stamkos as the leading scorer in franchise history.

Both Lightning GM Julien BriseBois and Dan Milstein, Kucherov’s agent, declined to comment.

He has a NTC where he can pick 10 teams to be traded to.

The issue may simply be that Tampa won't give him 20M AAV deal. Anyone trading for him probably needs to commit to a massive extension to make it worthwhile.

Some are saying he wants to play with the best. Man what a dream it would be to get him over here. 9.5 million cap hit…

Claims from "insiders" is Tampa wouldn't do more than 15M x 4, and Kuch wants 20M x 6.

Quite a gap, guess explains why he just wants out. I wonder if he will be willing to sign with any team that trades for him for less than 20M x 6 though. And if he waits until Summer, the max goes up beyond 23M AAV.

Looks like Brisebois has finally fumbled the best piece of the team he inherited

https://x.com/EddieInTheYard/status/2117305370708451547?a=Dx jcRhVWyarL922GNcU&s=20

Eduardo A. Encina @EddieInTheYard
Nikita Kucherov said that his trade request was a result of “poor communication and respect.”

“It was never about the money for me.”

Said that JBB had just two conversions with him during the last four months.

Still got the cups LTIR scamming with the best guys he inherited in their prime though.

I’ve seen a few places talk about Kucherov to the Oilers. A few problems though:

1) what the hell would we need to give up to get him? Do we even have enough?
2) How good of a fit would he be? There’s only so many minutes to go around - are you putting him on the top line for a”super” line with McDrai? Spread it around over 3 lines between McDrai, Kuch, Hyman, Savoie, Podz, RNH, and Kapanen?

I mean it would definitely be about as big an add as you could have up front, but I have to assume TB will be asking the moon for him. He’s UFA at the end of the year, and he’ll be 34 next summer. That said, I believe his game will hold up for a few more years at least, so if you can sign him to an extension, well then prospects be damned.

How do you afford to re-sign McDavid if we have Kucherov though? While it would be great to add him, I just don't think the Oilers have what it takes to trade for him, and if they did they don't have the cap space to keep him. 34 next year and he wants a 6 year deal at max value, just not going to happen if the Oilers are going to try and sign McDavid at 7x20 at the end of this season.

Jarry+Walman+Frederic is close to a Kucherov in cap hit ($16M) :).

Campbell's buyout gets 1.1M cheaper next year too.

And another 9.5M cap increase!

The 2028 cap jump could be 14M for when McDavid needs a new deal to start.

Brisebois has made some unfortunate trades in his time, like the bundle of picks he gave for a totally useless Tanner Jeannot.

Maybe we can play Frederic on the 1st line for a while to entice Brisebois.
