A near perfect game. Back to back shut outs. McDavid's streak continues.
Times are good.

Good team defence, Jarry did what he had to do, but at no time was he called to stand on his head to earn the shut out.
Any negativity for the performance has to be picky, and I didn't see much wrong.
6-0 on the road to start the year as well.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

Oily boys buying into to low event, team defence. Jarry making the stops he should.
Love this.
Perfect two games after the loose game against st the Leafs.

Oilers looking dominant defensively. I blame Babcock for that.

Like I said in the GDT, I think this is the most structured (if that’s the right word), or polished that this team has looked in forever.
And as much as we might want to spread the wealth, McDrai have never been as dominant. Almost all of their shifts feel like a PP. sustained o-zone time almost every time. Sure the wheels might fall off at some point, but at this point I see absolutely no reason to tinker with that.
And happy to eat pounds and pounds of crow if Jarry can maintain this sort of play. Some say he didn’t have to do much - he made some pretty good saves, but more importantly stayed composed. No flailing about. Hope he keeps it up.

That’s Edmonton’s first shutout win on Long Island since Game 1 of the 1984 Stanley Cup Final.
All it took was a Tristan Jarry to pull it off!

Some of my positive takeaways..
I think Nuge has stepped up another level with his own line.. he's goeing to the net more often.. quicker release.. not a physical guy but I've seen him grease out guys along the boards on a consistent basis.. he's getting his shots off quicker I feel.. leavin' the dust on ..
Dach is finding a home as a winger.. just up and down the ice.. clear and simple responsibilities..
Surprised to say it.. but Fred's skating today almost looked good.. quicker than last year.. the guy is really trying to stay in the lineup
Muka is starting to steal Walman's lunch.. his box outs are getting a lot better.. didn't see any bad decisions.. good skater.. has some offenive potential based on his agility and size.. as he gets better.. Walman might be getting a steady diet of popcorn..
Dickinson really solidifies that 3rd line with Formenton and Joeseph.. smart player.. Formenton still needs some games to see where he'll be.. lots of speed.. enables him to pressure on the PK's.. looks pretty weak on the stick.. has to be better at gaining, and keeping puck possession
Kapanen is really going well on Nuges line .. decent speed.. goes to the tough areas.. quick shot.. smart player..
Hope Howard is OK.. that was a nasty hit.. hopefully just a hit to the thigh and the knee is OK..
2 back to back shutouts for Jarry.. who'd a thunk it?

I'm relying on a couple AI agents here, but I think this is pretty accurate. How this team loved to sabotage themselves and play their worst games of the year any time we were close to 1st in the division:
Oilers record in 23/24 when we were within 2 points of 1st in the division: 1-2-1. We sabotaged ourselves almost every time and never actually got in 1st.
24/25 within 2 points of 1st: 3-4-0. AGAIN, sabotaged ourselves almost every time and never actually got in 1st.
25/26: Vegas had a brutal season and kept gifting us 1st place, but when we WERE in 1st place, our record was 4-4-6. 4 wins, 10 losses, endless failure to gain any ground when Vegas was handing it to us on a platter. And failed long enough to just give it away when Vegas did their coaching change.
26/27: Vegas playing extremely well, but we took 1st, and really only lost it because of a difference in number of games played giving Vegas extra chances at points. We have a 7-1-2 record when we have had the spot.
I don't know what the heck was going on in this room in past years where we would just go full choke mode any time we were close to 1st in the division. But nice to see this year we seem to be able to just put our heads down and play the same way regardless. Vegas isn't going to be easy to kick aside this year. Hopefully we can finally pull it off.
