Detroit seems to be imploding, surprisingly. I'm legitimately shocked that the Yzerplan has gone so poorly there, considering he built the Tampa juggernaut.
That said, with Ekholm starting to get a little longer in the tooth (yet playing well so far this season), do the Oilers try to make a play for a long-term #2 to play alongside Bouch? Edvinsson is 6' 6", enormous reach, decent wheels, good outlet pass, and seems to be pretty decent positionally. +12 in the last two seasons each, while playing most of the games. Could he be a gamble that might be worth it? Swedish D are always a valuable commodity, and they seem to think the game well on the whole.
Decent point producer, however he wouldn't need to be on this team.
Thoughts?

Here's the secret about Yzerman and Tampa - he never was really the guy there. Brisebois built the team - and Yzerman left in part because he didn't want to just be the figurehead...in Detroit, he surrounded himself more with the kind of people he was comfortable with - mostly old hockey players. And as happens again and again, a bunch of old hockey players just get manhandled by better GMs and player agents.
Yzerman's gone now, but Detroit hasn't really made any changes - they just have his group of old hockey players running it now. That's exactly the kind of group I'd be targeting to make trades with - especially when they're having multiple crises to deal with. Only issue for the Oilers is that we'd need them to take back Walman likely - he clears the most salary on D and we've got him struggling on the third pairing. Detroit knows him well, so hard to see him being their top choice in a return and he has a full no-move clause so unless he LOVED it in Detroit, he's probably not waiving to go back to that gong show.
Ekholm would be the other option but again, full no-move clause and probably isn't leaving Edmonton to finish his career in a capsizing Red Wings ship.
We're a bit hamstrung by all the NMC/NTCs on the back end. Shea has a full no-trade, Murphy has a full no-move. Emberson, Stastney and Mukhamamudllin are all tradeable still, but they also are all cheap and don't clear nearly enough money to get and sign Edvinsson.
Likewise on forward, every player making more than $3MM has a no-move clause with the exception of Hyman who has an 8-team trade list this year. That includes Trent Frederic who has full no-move until the end of 2028-29 season.
That leaves just Jarry if you want to clear salary but he has a 12-team no-trade list too. Chances are good that Detroit is on it (and he's probably on their no-want list too).
We have good cap availability for a late year deal, but as of right now, we're handicapped unless we can move money out.

Brisebois hasn't been that impressive either IMO. His deadline trades have been brutal.
Both Yzerman and him rode some miracle drafting, couple very elite forwards in the 2nd round, a franchise goalie falling into their lap. Similar to Holland (with extra help from unlimited cap). No more super elite late picks? The fun starts to end. Their rides lasted a bit longer in Tampa because of the tax advantage. That team would have been broken apart much earlier in most other cities.
Yzerman tried to repeat with Cossa and his early picks. None of it is working out.
Holland gave a preview in Detroit of what these guys look like when the miracle drafting ends. Of course we missed the memo and gave him $25M. No idea what LA was thinking after seeing his crap here, lol.
