The catch-all thread is back!
Some good entertainment last night aside from our poop-show game
Shesterkin scores a goalie goal.
Nurse crosschecks Matt Tkachuk in the back of the head and also shoves Barkov that makes Barkov fall awkwardly onto his leg to potentially mess up his knee or ankle.

Curious what people think of the NHL's decision to officially consolidate the old Winnipeg Jets with the new Winnipeg Jets:
https://www.nhl.com/jets/news/jets-and-nhl-announce-consolid ation-of-winnipeg-jets-history
This bothers me probably more than it should, since I object to "making up history". The old and new Winnipeg Jets "are" different franchises, so you can't just wave your magic wand and make them the same franchise--which is what they are doing.
It actually has other connotations as well. For example Shane Doan has always been one of the rare players to play a long successful career with one franchise--but now that they've arbitrarily decided that the Phoenix Coyotes are a "different" franchise he (officially) loses that distinction.

It's so ridiculously inconsistent - the Avs and Hurricanes are wearing the jersey of the team they used to be as a 3rd jersey, and now the Mammoth aren't connected to the franchise's past at all. The weird thing is that Phoenix was one of the very few teams to move who paid any kind of homage to the old iteration - they kept retired jerseys as "honoured jerseys" from the Winnipeg days and even had Hull, Steen & Hawerchuk banners hung.
The teams have the same name, but that's it. Also - do the Jets now lose the history from their Atlanta Thrashers days?

That's even weirder--the Atlanta Thrasher are considered part of the whole Winnipeg Jets franchise now.
So to sum up:
Reality is two franchises:
(1) Winnipeg Jets (1979-1996)/Phoenix-Arizona Coyotes (1996-2024)/Utah Mammoth (2024-present)
(2) Atlanta Thrasher (1999-2011)/Winnipeg Jets (2011-present)
But now the official NHL record book will claim their are three franchises:
(1) Winnipeg Jets (1979-1996)/Atlanta Thrasher (1999-2011)/Winnipeg Jets (2011-present)
(2) Phoenix-Arizona Coyotes (1996-2024)
(3) Utah Mammoth (2024-present).
I don't think revisionist history is ever a good idea. I could envision Atlanta getting another expansion team and wanting to amalgamate all the Atlanta teams. So they'd have to take the Atlanta Flames history from Calgary and the Thrashers' history from Winnipeg. Or Quebec getting one and taking the Nordiques from the Avalanche (who could then take the Rockies history from New Jersey).
What a mess.

Florida doesn't have the cap space to be able to have Barkov and marchand in the lineup at the same time.
Crazy coincidence that the second Barkov was put on LTIR, Marchand completed his injury recovery to be taken off LTIR and put into the lineup the next game.
I'm sure there will be another crazy coincidence later this year that Barkov's healing is complete the second that some other high price player is put on LTIR.
