Official Training camp roster has been released.

57 players in camp (including those injured (Andersen, Savoie, Janmark, Regula, Clattenburg):

Goalies (8): Andersen, Day, Jarry, Jonsson, Levi, Tomkins, Ungar, Vinni

Defencemen (18): Akey, Bookman, Bouchard, Brown, Carfagna, Cibulka, Ekholm, Emberson, Leppanen, Mukhamadullin, Murphy, Regula, Robinson, Shea, Sjolund, Stastney, Stillman, Walman

Forwards (31): Berzkalns, Clattenburg, Dach, Dickinson, Draisaitl, Frederic, Formenton, Griffith, Harvey, Howard, Hutson, Hyman, Janmark, Jones, Joseph, Kapanen, Lewandowski, Marjala, McDavid, Michaels, Nicholl, Nugent-Hopkins, Pitlick, Podkolzin, Raty, Samanski, Savoie, Stefan, Stonehouse, Tassy, Tralmaks

With the shortened training camp, we should see this cut down pretty quick

With Andersen injured, the goalies will be Jarry and Levi, regardless of what happens in camp.

Defence: Bouchard, Ekholm, Walman, Shea, and Murphy are locks. Emberson and Mukhamadullin likely with the other two spots (Stasntey and Brown as longer shots).

Forwards: Locks are McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, Dickinson, Frederic, Kapanen, and Podkolzin. Very likely on the team: Dach, Samanski, Howard, Joseph, Hutson. Injuries to Savoie and Janmark leave some spots open.

Let's see what happens.

The Oilers made both Hyman and Bouchard assistant captains (joining Draisaitl and RNH) after the departure of Nurse:

Bit of a mixed lineup for the first pre-season game.

McDavid, Draisaitl, Podkolzin, Bouchard, Shea, and Jarry are playing, but the rest are more bubble players, fighting for their spot:

Forwards

Draisaitl - McDavid - Podkolzin
Formenton - Dach - Joseph
Jones - Samanski - Howard
Nicholl - Michaels - Griffith

Defence

Shea - Bouchard
Stastney - Emberson
Stillman - Brown

Goalies

Jarry
Tomkins

Most interesting thing will be to see what kind of reception Formenton gets from the home crowd in his first game. I had speculated the Oilers would ease him in by giving him just the road pre-season games to start, but obviously not.

Beauty goal by Formenton, sick backhand sift move.. he's the 2nd fastest man on the team.. top 5% in NHL speed .. he's going to be a force on the PK.. you can't put pressure on the point men if you're slow.. that killed us last year.. the PK'er's were too slow and had to stay down low in a tight box.. PK got hammered..
Formenton is going to replace what we had with McLeod, except better skill and much more physicality.. I predict he'll make to the top 6 by end of season just based on raw speed and skill.

Regarding reception you mentioned.. from the replay I saw of his goal the crowd cheered

I listened to the game.. sounded like Shea played well.. got a goal and played solid defence.. look forward to watch the next pre-season game.

btw saw Stauffer on Oilers Video.. man that guy lost a ton of weight.. he went from 3 chins down to just 1 .. he's a shadow.. he said on his show it was almost all diet and excercise.. tried teh Ozempic for a few weeks and didn't like it.. he started last May.. lost something like 50 lbs I think .. 👍🏻

oh no, Formenton scored.

Think people were reading too much into this guys swiss league stats. The only thing on his mind his entire time there was probably staying healthy and getting back to the NHL. Staying in game shape was probably his only concern, along wth a trial endlessly distracting him.

You don't score 5 SHG in a year and have 95th percentile PK performance on a crap team by mistake. This guy could be pretty useful. We obviously need better PK guys, we just witness one of the most laughably inept PK's in NHL history last playoffs, and it really let us down the playoff year before too, not to mention multiple seasons in a row as well (an endless let down after whatever miracle was happening in the 2024 playoff run).

His 5v5 game, yet to be determined, but his ES stats weren't too bad either his last season before he was out of the league. Could give good 3rd line production for us.
