In a major development, the Red Wings announce Steve Yzerman is stepping down as the team’s head of Hockey Operations and becoming an advisor to Chris Ilitch.
A search for the team’s next President/GM is underway
Over half a decade of weak drafting after landing endless gems late in Tampa. Think kinda like Holland, most of the magic of these guys was in the scouting staffs, and a dose of luck which all ran out for Yzerman in Detroit. And of course Holland gave us a load of turds as our amateur scouts.
Larkin wanting out and a huge fail season where they choked being 1st in the division to missing the playoffs between Jan and April probably sealed it for Yzerman.
Lots of GM's/coaches only ever have 1 real run of luck in them, then they just keep getting jobs because they won before, and fail over and over. We have loved hiring these guys to do some of that failing for us. Maybe Yzerman is an Oilers GM/POHO one day after Katz throws a bag of money at him.
