.. Stauffer saying Oilers have decided to hire Babkcock..
Babcock hasn't coached for 6 years.. stupid. stupid.. light years beyond stupid..
F Bowman.. Fire the freaking clown.. he's made stupid decisions since the day he arrived.. zero savvy.. .. not worthy of a NHL (or AHL) GM job...
Stauffer mopping up the push back from this stupidity is freaking nauseating..
Forget the 2026/27 season boys and girls.. its over before it started.
Bowman and Jackson bent over pulled down their pants and let Vegas have their way with the franchise and our retaining McDavid
Fire the clowns..ALL of THEM!

We will lose McDavid because of Jackson and Bowman..
Worst GM and president combo in franchise history .. worse than Chiarelli ..

Stauffer such a propagandist..
At least he admits he's an employee.. but his arguments on this are so full of holes its embarrassing (to him and us) that he thinks he can spew them on the air.. I find it hard to think he actually believes what he saying..
He keeps saying"..the owner.. the management.. and the players are ALL in agreement.."
Lie.. no way the players were in on this decision.. they were asked after teh fact if they "shouldn't" sign Babcock.. being good character guys.. what are the players going to do.. say "NO"? .. first off since when does a management put the players in the position where they're responsible for hiring a specific coach.. ??
Never.
Its a weak assed management empty of rational conviction.. that will try to download the responsibility for a major management decison on to the players.. total BUSH league..
Then Stauffer keeps repeating the drivle that "we don't know what's in Cassidy's contract.." .. "..we don't know when, or if Cassidy will ever be allowed to sign with the Oilers.." .. ... empty arguments..
You don't know today.. so you wait for the end of the playoffs ( a few days from now) .. and FORCE both Vegas.. and the NHL.. to decide whether Cassidy is allowed to sign.. or not.. you stand firm .. wait.. and make the NHL and Vegas blink.. Bowman did exactly what the NHL and Vegas had hoped.. and what withholding Cassidy was intended to do.. force the Oilers to make (another) stupid decision.. and pick a second tier coach.. which the Oilers have happily done now.. congrats you morons.
If Vegas and the NHL keep Cassidy from working anywhere else then at least exposed their true intent.. you also force Vegas to pay 4.5M for nothing while they sit Cassidy..
They gave up on Cassidy who has extensive knowledge of CURRENT players.. and teams.. in the league.. and even more on the Vegas players and management.. the Oilers major division rival... so Oilers gave up on that advantage and picked a guy who has been out of the league for SIX years.. and doesn't know any current players or teams .. he's a year long (minimum) reclaim project as a coach.
On top of it.. before Babcock was canned in Columbus he hadn't done anything as a coach for 3 years.. and now another 3 years.. total 6.. why take such a low probability chance on success? Its a huge risk. Based on the most trecent past experience and data, the probability is that Babcock will fail.. why make this decision?
I thoght we had an "analytics" department now.. that looks at probabilities and risks? Fail
Stupid managers = Stupid decisions .. simple math.. and Bowman/Jackson have been making them since they arrived.. time to cut the losses.. fire them both
.. maybe Katz should ask the players if they should replace Bowman and Jackson while they are at it

This is a very good point and they do it repeatedly. It's a classic example of weak leadership where the goal is not to lead but rather to make sure that you have an 'out' and aren't really responsible if your decision goes badly.
I'll say it again. If Steff Bowsons stated goal in summer 2024 was to drive this franchise off of a cliff - what would they have done differently?

Trying not to picture the laughing coming out of the Vegas front office, but I think I can hear it from here.
Is this for real? We couldn’t wait even wait until the playoffs were over. There is no way Vegas was going to pay Cassidy 4.5M to sit.

Absolutely .. McCrimmon and McPhee must be laughing their butts off right now.. kinda like this..
Vegas thought the trap might work.. but can't believe Oilers actually fell for it..
Collective Oiler management IQ has to be one of the lowest in the NHL.. in under two years Bowman and Jackson have turned themselves into the NHL's running joke.
St. Louis offer sheets for Broberg and Holloway(failing tosecure the Oilers top 2 prospects) .. Vegas refusing Cassidy to talk.. leaking it .. forcing Oilers to fire Knob.. .. buying Jarry for top price.. signing Fred for 8 x 4M .. signing Walman for 6 x 7M.. signing Mangiapane.. trading Mangiapane and a 1st for a rental.. have all made Bowman look like a schmuck.. list goes on.. hasn't won many trades.. the one exception is Podz.

They really don't want me to watch hockey next year do they.
I saw this rumor down here and had to come see what legs it had. Hopefully the Stauffer leak is one of those "trial balloons" to see how folks react.
The game passed him by at his prior stops, nevermind he hasn't actually coached in the league in years, and really wasn't that great in Detroit, given the talent he had at his disposal.
Time to find Mike Commodore online to see what he has to say.

Stauffer made a fool of himself on his show today trying to spin this management debacle.. comical.. he isn't a good enough actor to pull it off..
Oilers could write a book (library) on how to ruin a franchise through picking the wrong management..
Only dream I have left is that babcock is hired.. Vegas releases Cassidy.. Oilers hire Cassidy as an assitant for a $1 .. vegas pays the difference.. then Cassidy takes over as HC next year.. that's what I'd do.

Just complete ineptitude. They have no other ideas other than more disgraced old men.
And the worst is that Babcock hasn't won anything in waaaay over a decade. He hasn't won a playoff series since 2013. It's not like he is just a troubled hire, he's also not been good. His time in Toronto was a disaster, and in Columbus he didn't even get to the point where he coached any games because he lost the team before he could get there.
Gregor called it out as desperate today and it's hard to see any other way to describe it. They blundered in to the Cassidy situation and now they're getting impatient, especially after the Kings picked up Laviolette. But this would be a bad decision through and through.
Friedman pointing out already that it probably hurts us in free agency too - players don't want to play for Mike Babcock. He's that much of a dirtbag.
As for the players meeting with him - what exactly are they supposed to do? I think that's just putting them in an uncomfortable spot, and then using them to try to sell this to a disappointed public.
This would be a terrible way to end the McDavid era here. We can only hope that the NHLPA puts an end to the madness.
And if this is owner-driven? Then Darryl - stay out of the office. This is a bad idea. We don't need more slimeballs with baggage on the Oilers.

Saw this comment. Sums our last couple years up well
“ The #Oilers are like the Vegas Golden Knights in not caring what anyone thinks in making controversial calls if it means they can win.
Except the moves they make are bad.”
The final chances to give McDrai a reason to stay here together and we end up with Bowman and Babcock. Hilarious. Hilariously sad.

It's like we just let David Staples run the show. They consistently get everything wrong. It's a bleeping disgrace.

Saw the rumours this morning...thought, "yup...that's on brand". Still surprised how fast they've moved. It's going to be an epic 30 for 30 one day, and sadly I don't think our fanbase will come off looking to well either.

HitchCOCK to TIPpet to WOODcroft to KNOBlauch, and now BabCOCK
Another example of MacT’s law of the cyclical nature of the game.

I actually meant to create this thread before the Babcock hiring.. Bowman is not a good GM.. Chicago roster and play style was largely created by Talon before he got tossed out for Bowman..
Despite what Jackson did getting cornered on the Broberg and Holloway offer sheets by signing Avardson, J Skinner (w t f!) .. and extending Henrique .. Bowman failed to realize the value in the prospects and chose not to match and subsequently correct Jackson's mistakes.. he could have traded Avardson, skinner.. bought em out whatever.. Broberg was the real loss.. instead Bowman gave up a 1st to trade for Walman and then signs him for 7x7 .. and who looks like 3rd pair level at this point.. meanwhile Broberg leads the St. Louis defence corp... never mind Holloway.. who is now on St. louis top line.. and was a top forward at the recent worlds for Canada.. Bowman replaced him with who.. Fred? Fred who cost a 2nd and a 4th and Bowman then signs for 8 x 4M (c/w NTC).. and was a deserved healthy scratch by the end of the season
Trades O'Reilly for Howard.. O'Reilly who is MVP of the OHL, OHL playoffs, and the Memorial Cup.. Howard has skill.. but he lacks speed and size to compete at elite levels.. I don't see him as the next Caulfield.. which I'm sure Bowman had imagined.. Caulfield is a lot faster.. any simple analytics could have indicated that..
The tell for me that Bowman is reaching for ideas is that he seems to always look for players in his old neighbourhood, places where he has had the most familiarity.. like the US development team or NCAA close to Chicago.. its like a crutch he leans on.. also a sign that he is scarce on roster solutions..
Signs Mangiapen.. based on hopes and prayers.. there was nothing in his previous seasons play that suggested he'd be an answer in the top 6.. he was a bust from the start of the season.. then they give up assets to get rid of him..
Then there is Jarry.. paid peak price.. now we're hoping Jarry trains over the summer.. gets better.. makes a miracle career comeback.. like every summer we had with Stu.
Now the entire coaching debacle.. start to finish.. a comedy

Bowman has struck out on every activity involving a medium to big money asset. His only hits are the cheap guys that no other team wanted at the time that came back to life (maybe only temporarily) with us. Basically Podz, Ingram, roslovic. Anything else, disaster. And Babcock will count as a big money asset, he will probably milk us for 5M a season like he’s doing us a favour coming out of retirement.

Agree. Podz is the only guy I think he's had a succes in a trade .. all the rest were noticable net losses.. He's signed some NCAA/Euro prospects.. but they are AHL level until proven otherwise.
Only guy thats come up is Samanski.. and he was given to Bowman by Dallas Eakins.. nothing to do with Stan
I'm starting to think past Babcock already.. this year they have more cap to waste.. more roster decisions to make.. they actually have to evaluate other team's players, as well as their own.. and then select who to chase .. hold on to.. or punt out..
No decisions he's done up until today leaves me with any positivity we'll come out ahead this summer.. he has created a track record that's fairly long now that we can all see and evaluate ourselves.. and IMHO its been a fail.

However, if Katz has pulled out the old 5x5M Ken holland type of offer, there is loads of incentive for Babcock to go to battle here, and Katz will probably help him with the best lawyers money can buy. 2000’s Hockey Canada bros stick together for life!!

I think the NHLPA is asking the NHL to continue the NHL's investigation.. as far as I'm concerned it'll be a nothing burger.. after all NHL let Quinvelle back in .. .. after he was suspended and banned from the league involving a sexual incident.. NHL has set a pretty solid precident..
I don't really care about Babcock being "mean" to players..a lot of the Oil palyers need a kick in the *ss.. it seems that making players accountabile was being left to the players.. McDavid probably wants someone else to share the responsibility
My problem with Babcock is that he's been out of the NHL for 6 years, and Oil didn't wait out Vegas to take Cassidy who was their #1 choice..
Maybe this works out.. drag the NHL and Betman through the mud in the middle of the Cup final.. put it on the media's front burner.. divert the media's attention and discussion from their premier event.. and the pinnacle of Vegas' season
