Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
NHL officially informs teams of the 2026-27 Salary cap and payroll range:
Floor: $76.9M
Midpoint: $90.4M
Ceiling: $104M
Maximum salary: $20.8M
Increase of 8.5M. That's almost 1 Darnell Nurse!

Nurse has made his fair share of mistakes over the years but he is also one of the few Oilers with a mean streak. Frederic is the softest 6'3" 220+ pound player I have ever seen.
So this is what hope feels like?

Truth.
This is what scares me about Bowman and his pro-scouts.. how bad is their perception and analysis of NHL talent that they decide they need to sign a guy like Frederic for EIGHT years at $4M? Nothing Fred did while an Oiler even suggested he was worth re-signing.. never mind for 8 years.. They were clearly throwing darts and crossing their fingers.
Regarding Darnell, he had a mean streak, and could back it up.. he seems to have gone vegatarian or something.. gets pushed around too often, lack of weight and/or strength, and projects little to be intimidated about. No team is keeping their heads on a swivel looking out for Darnell.

Nurse has a mean streak that shows up when it doesn't matter. End of a game is his favorite time to look tough. Guy never catches anyone with big hits because he is too busy trying to figure out what is happening around him.
Need players that can help us win games. Not ones that struggle to keep up all season and plays a huge part in why the team can never get rolling, and cap it off by deflecting 2 GWG's into our own net, including the series winner.
Frederic, what can even be said about him. He got to the point this year people were excited when he could make a pass. We are desensitized to these terrible cap hits on long term deals, probably mainly because of having to cope with Nurse's contract. 7 years to go for Freddy!
