Jon Rosen @jonnyrosen
I've been informed Cassidy interviewed with the Kings this past Friday.

So Vegas gave LA permission to talk to Cassidy, but wouldn't allow us to. So it's just an Oilers thing, not a division rivals thing. Nasty bastards

I suspect the Knights look at Holland running the Kings and just think "sure, go ahead and hire Bruce. He's not a miracle worker." Edmonton is significantly more of a threat with decent coaching.

It is a gong show now though. I feel like the Oilers haven't done a great job at the off-season so far. Bowman did his exit interview with the media before McDavid & Draisaitl had theirs, and it doesn't feel like there was an awareness of how the superstars felt about things going in to those availabilities, because Bowman's tone did not match that of 29 and 97. He seemed more likely to tweak than make big changes, which is problematic when the message from the stars is that we're going backwards here and we have a limited window so figure this the bleep out.

Bowman did not give any kind of vote of confidence to Knoblauch and that creates an uncomfortable situation right away. It has felt like the Oilers have only one or two established candidates in mind, and if they couldn't get those then they're done looking - and to this point probably would have kept Knoblauch.

Now the die is cast though - he's a lame duck after this, so they may as well make that call sooner than later. If they have to spend some time interviewing and looking at resumes, it might actually be good for the franchise.

All that said, I think Cassidy is coming to Edmonton. The most likely source of this leak is Cassidy's camp. It's clearly not in Vegas' interests to leak it. They look like jackholes. And with Knoblauch still in the job, it's not a great look on the Oilers either so unlikely that the Oilers leaked it. If Cassidy has decided that this is a much more appealing opportunity for him than the Kings role or any other openings, then he DOES have something to gain from having this news out there. The only other group I could see potentially leaking is a faction in the Oilers who was pushing for a coaching change no matter what, and felt that it's win-win to have this out there.

Also if the Oilers were going to look to do a nasty turn back to Vegas, you hire him on a three year contract, where he gets the same money he was getting from Vegas in years 2 and 3, but where he's getting only half that in year 1, knowing that the Knights would have to top him up to where he was before.

Good theory on the Cassidy camp leaking. I can’t imagine the Kings look too appealing either with Kopitar out and Doughty almost done. And with Holland GMing, unlikely to come close to replacing those loses.

Hopefully the Ducks can finish Vegas off and everyone can get to business.
