Pronger put out a book where he touches on his joining and leaving Edmonton.
Basically he says he signed his 5 year deal with us while he was drunk without consulting with his family. His last convo with his wife was about a 1 year deal being the only option, but boozed up at 1am he ended up signing for 5.
| Quote: | But at 1 a.m., my agent called back. 'They want to talk contract. They don’t want you playing on a one-year deal. They cannot afford a contract with $7 million in the number.'
I should’ve said no. Should’ve said I need to sleep on it. Should’ve said I need to talk to my wife. Instead, sitting in my home office, several more beers deep, we started negotiating.
By 2 a.m., I’d agreed to five years.
|
Claims by November he was done with Edmonton:
| Quote: | I knew it wasn’t working by November. Not the team … the situation. The promise I’d failed to keep.
I told my agent: “I’m done after this year. Start figuring out how to make it happen.”
From November to June, I played every game knowing I was leaving.

Don't have the book, just scraping info and quotes from the internet. Another part someone posted:
| Quote: | Edmonton? Nobody mentioned f—ing Edmonton.
On our way home, Lauren and I stopped at a bookstore. She asked the clerk, “Do you have any books about Edmonton?”
The woman looked at her like she’d asked for books about the North Pole. “Why would anyone want to go there?”
Welcome to our new life.

I think pronger is on a mission of cleaning up his image and is very actively looking for prominent head office roles on NHL teams, so probably need to take it all with a grain of salt. He's kinda blaming himself, but also blaming others for taking advantage of him while he was drunk. He's also trying to counter any stories that were told about his wife.

I've also never understood how someone from St. Louis could talk trash about anywhere else.

lol, truth for probably 99% of their citizens. St Louis was her hometown and her family was prominent in the wealth social scene so that is probably where all her comfort there comes from. They still live in a posh St Louis suburb so seems like Pronger fully subscribes to the happy wife happy life principle :) Except if you catch him at 1am drunk?? lol, if his story is to be believed.
Just on that topic, I see things a lot lately about how McDavid's wife and other hockey wives here have worked extra hard to welcome the whole families of players we acquire. That's good to hear, and probably very different from what it was like a couple decades ago.

Lol what a tool. I actually think his media appearances lately have been pretty good and I think he is a good analyst and what happened in 2006 - whatever. But to me this comes off as really lame and kind of pathetic. Like CP is from Canada - he knew where Edmonton was even if his wife didn't. I haven't read the book but these quotes come off like he is really acting like the victim here. He signed the contract and then bailed on it and is trying to garner sympathy (and avoid discussing any less than flattering details) by acting as if everyone can all just agree that living in Edmonton (as a millionaire) is awful and that he was justified in doing what he did because he couldn't stand up to his wife.
Maybe there's more context in the book but honestly this makes him sound way worse to me than I thought before. Kind of just sounds like a b!#ch at this point.
Also the story about the bookstore obviously is a lie. Yeah I'm sure the bookstore clerk said that
