I feel like this may actually give them a decent boost. I was kind of hoping for us to make this kind of change a couple weeks ago.

Yeah. This may not be good Jews for us. Vegas not ignoring the players tuning the coach out. Doesn’t matter if they won a cup with him. If the players are tuning the coach out, that’s it. Almost every NHL has a shelf life except Cooper these days.
We just gave a new 3 year deal to our coach that may be tuned out. Better recent play and Coffey return might be an excuse to keep sitting on our hands with Knob

Vegas's problem isn't coaching.. its a slower team.. and they just added Anderson who is a pending boat anchor contract (fingers crossed!!) ..
I can't see Torts changing anything that makes Vegas meaningfully better in EIGHT (8) games.. but I hope he gets a long term contract though.. him and Anderson can age together like rancid cheese 🤞🏻🙂

I haven't' looked at Vegas closely for a while. Seeing now that they have had even worse goaltending than us this year. But almost all their analytics are near top in the league. 5th in xGF, 3rd in high danger chances. Their PDO is 2nd last because of sav%.
Kind of hilarious actually, they may have fired a good coach that just needed a goalie, and replaced him with an a-hole that will probably need to be fired in the next 1-2 years too after he pisses off the whole team. You can never discount a short term coach bump though, we will have to see.
For us, I'm shocked to see we have actually climbed back to top 10 in the league in xGF%. We have been playing pretty well lately. Unfortunately we doubled down on Dustin Schwartz products, so our PDO this year is forever hampered by Schwartz goalie suckage. Thank goodness for Ingram though, at least giving the team a shot in the last few months to show some of what is possible.

Cassidy is a top systems coach. I would think very hard about offering him a job despite where we are in the season.
Clean house or bust

Agree, Cassidy is pretty solid.. he'll be snapped up pretty quick..
I love this move for Vegas though .. (as an Oil fan)
Nice panic move from Vegas.. first one I think I've seen them make.. its been all peaches since they entered the league .. they're starting to feel the heat from lack of performance.. hoping the next panic move is an 8 x $9+M for Anderson.. (please!)
Vegas timed this move pretty well.. lined up Torts first game vs the NHL's worst team (Canucks) tomorrow.. and an ex-Canucks coach.. should be a blow-out.. or .. will it ? :)

Oilers should hire Cassidy as an assistant coach for the rest of the season.

I don't know.. that would essentially be telling Knoblauch your done.. and you have to work with your replacement for the rest of your time here.. probably more humane to just fire him.. ?

Waaaaaat?? we would never hire an assistant coach purely with the plans to replace the head coach with him the following year.
That'd be almost as bush-league as firing somebody over zoom... or having the GM stand on the bench to coach the coach... or having a coach handpick an assistant, then hand that assistant the head coach job.
