Kucherov on an absolute tear. 20 points in his last 7 games. 47 in his last 19. Now only 5 back of McDavid with 3 games in hand. icon_eek

He gets a nice 2-week rest now too...

Can you guess which team has Colin Campbell's son as an assistant GM?

Evan Closky @ECloskyWTSP
Unless there are more disciplinary actions coming down the chute from the NHL DoPS, the damage of 7 games between the Lightning and Panthers have resulted in:

~$8K of fines for Florida
~$135K of fines for TBL with two players suspended for a total of 6 games.

I don't think they'd allow having family members in league admin and team management.. in either NFL, MLB, or NBA .. I saw the melee last night.. started by Mikkola who blind sided Kucherov behind teh play.. and then tried to casually skate off the ice..
TB isn't taking anymore of Maurice's BS this year.. Muarice got his ass kicked out of the game last night.. can't stand that pretentious donkey..

The Tkachuk skated across the whole rink to skate into Kucherov's back to knock him over a second time.

Then Tkachuk does his usual turtle act of course.

Florida players seem to all act fully knowing the league favors them.

This was by a mile the easiest year we had to win the division in the McDavid era, and we have done absolutely everything we could to mess it up.

Our division is the joke of the league, and we are a big part of why. Only 1 team in our division has finished more games a winner than loser, the Ducks.

As per usual, Stone leaves a game within a few days of the trade deadline with a mysterious injury …. nothing to see here, right Gary?

I believe there is a playoff salary cap in place now, so those usual tricks of stacking up for the playoffs won't work anymore. They can go over, but won't be able to dress a team in the playoffs that's over the cap.

This means we can sit Nurse for all of the playoffs and that frees up all kinds of space for us.

After Barkov went down, the league made a point to say that the new playoff cap rules could have some flexibility to them and the rules are not set in stone.

Don't worry, I'm sure Florida and Vegas have a plan. Fingers crossed Florida just doesn't make the playoffs at all, but Bennett and Tkachuk just put up 5 points in 3 games now that they are back on the juice. I wouldn't count them out yet.

What does flexibility mean though? Are there just no new rules or what? I never heard anything about them being more flexible on those rules this year.

My guess would have been that they would give playoff cap exemptions for players that were out the entire season, because this forced teams to act as if the player would not return. So, then they shouldn't punish the player for working so hard to be back in time for playoffs because the spirit of the new rules was just about players being injured mid-season and how questionable it was that they have this short term injury perfectly timed for a playoff return.

Looks like Florida may have messed up their regular season too much to even bother with that anymore though. Maybe they can try again next year :)

Wyshynski (sp?) was saying yesterday that there are a couple of teams that have been complaining to the NHL about the new rule. Obviously everyone believes that's Florida and Vegas. Will be interesting to see if this gets modified for next year.

Worth noting - while we COULD sit Nurse in the playoffs and dress $9MM more in other bodies, unless he were to be "injured" and sit out the rest of the season, then we can't use his salary to get new people now and we can't go over the limit during the season.

Yeah I think that's the play with the new rules.. you need to sit out the high cap player on LTIR until after playoffs start.. you add an equivalent player(s) to fill that LTIR cap.. then during the playoffs you have the option to add players to the game roster to fit the cap limit.. you can use the new rules to build greater team depth and talent in case of injury for the playoffs.. teams will still play games with it.

The one rule change that a lot of teams are complaining about is the elimination of the double retention scheme.. you can't get a $9M guy down to $3M anymore.

I think they're also not super-thrilled with how the calculations go for guys who aren't out the full season. There's been some adjustments to how they do LTIR I believe - so you have to sign off that a guy is actually done for the year to really get to fully spend that money again.

That's irritating if you have Barkov or Pietrangelo suddenly ready to play for the playoffs (assuming Panthers can even make it now).

Yeah saw that.. I still think we need a top 4 D.. L or R..

St. Louis in a fire sale.. same with Calgary.. Weegar is their best D.. although he's looking pretty slow..
If we weren't cap & asset limited I'd have taken a shot at Parayko for a Cup run or 2..

Toronto putting up the 4-Sale sign as well.. McCann, EOL, Laughton all left off the roster tonight..

NJ also selling off..

Looking like a buyers market..

Wow, I guess there is a new thing now with teams to leak their trades before the players actually waive their NMC/NTC.

Sounds like Parayko and Weegar are just sitting around seeing the hockey world analyze what their team has decided to trade them for, and are deciding if they want to waive to actually make it possible or not, lol.

D market gone wild.

Tyler Myers to Dallas (for 2nd and 4th)

Colton Parayko to Buffalo (for a 1st and good prospect)

MacKenzie Weegar to Utah

Yeah saw that.. I still think we need a top 4 D.. L or R..

St. Louis in a fire sale.. same with Calgary.. Weegar is their best D.. although he's looking pretty slow..
If we weren't cap & asset limited I'd have taken a shot at Parayko for a Cup run or 2..

Toronto putting up the 4-Sale sign as well.. McCann, EOL, Laughton all left off the roster tonight..

NJ also selling off..

Looking like a buyers market..

Me.. Josi and O'Reilly ! icon_nod

I could see the PA asking players to tell teams to go stuff themselves on this kind of move. At some point they will want to make that an unpalatable path so it stops happening.

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
