The choice has been made, Paul Coffey is returning to the bench.

Knobs is "all over" the "idea"..

Interesting to say the least. Knobs saying why are you not listening to my defensive pairs?

Coffey: "My Stanley cup rings are plugging my ears"

I think that was from Patrick Roy saying something to this effect..

No way that's not a gun to his head with him saying that, no way at all.

lol, Knob has to be on the hot seat now. Coffey has a direct line to the owner. He probably comes into that coaching staff with a lot of power.

For the sake of this team and not wasting another year of McDrai, i really hope Coffey does have some kind of magic wand for the defensive play. It's been abysmal this year.

This iteration of the team is such a mess. They have regressed SIGNIFICANTLY this year, and Knob's constant desperation move is just to run Connor and Leon into the ground to cover up for his absolute lack of ability to get anything out of the supporting cast.

I've been mostly/somewhat happy about Knobs. But seeing how often he defaults to McDavid + Draisatl + name from a hat + Bouchard + name from a hat while none of the other lines get any prime offensive time is definitely a major flaw in the design. By the time the SCF comes (assuming we get that far) 97 and 29 are worn down to the bone and the rest of the team has no offensive chemistry, as they spent those opportunities on the bench watching the wunderkids.

Illegitimi non carborundum.

Will be weird if we suddenly start playing good defense again just because a guy that doesn't even want to coach hops back in. Should be some degree of clean out of coaches if that actually happens. Stuart obviously gone ASAP.

Or maybe we just keep on stinking defensively, then I guess fire them all :)

Real issue will remain management of course, but this year has been Eakins tier bad on the defensive side. There is really no excuse for that for the coaches. Maybe the ideas are still sound, but we tuned another guy out, still means we may not have a choice but to do the usual 2-3 year swap. Eakins was special in how he was creating a complete disaster from day 1. Knob made it to the same amount of time coaching that everyone else got tuned out at in the last decade or so.
