Sounds like Stuaffer said this was a very consequential game for the org. Someone getting fired over the break?

Embarrassing game. Somehow Lomberg owns us still, lol. Horrid defending. Horrid goaltending. Pass parade in the offensive zone, bunch of fancy boys skating the perimeter trying to pass through Lames players.

Roster formation is the biggest problem from last year.. that puts Jackson and Bowman on the hot seat.. hard to make chicken salad out of chicken s t.. but those mistakes on defence keep happening.. wasn't this bad under Coffey.. Mark Stuart the issue? Knoblauch isn't getting the player's attention apparently.. could be a change .. although after 2 consecutive Cup Finals it'd be hard to fire him.. might divert the attention away from the roster.. but a bold move none the less..

I suspect this team comes back after the break even worse.. and slower.

Not to be chicken little, but playoffs are nowhere close to a guarantee at this point. Once teams play their games in hand, we could be on the outside looking in.

Seattle 1pt back with a game in hand assuming the best LA tonight.
LA 4pts back with 3 games in hand.
ANA 1pt back with 2 games in hand
Utah tied with a game in hand.

This team is dead.

The team is driven by McDavid.. sometimes Leon.. everyone else is a passenger.

If they didn't have McDavid this team would lottery pickers.

I'm actually really enjoying the post-game commentary from the Flames. Cooley was hilarious and fun, and Lomberg just called Jarry Swiss cheese, hahaha...

Honestly, it made the end of this one a lot more bearable.

Draisaitl just called out the whole team, including the coaches. Very explicitly, the defense and the coaches. Things are going sideways, folks.

Thankfully no more Oilers for 3 weeks.. way too invested with the outcomes of these games.. hopefully a gold medal for C. McDavid and Canada will make the hockey cosmos whole for a while.. it'll keep me happy for the rest of the year.

Knob with the same boring post presser I’m sure. Entire team just completely dead. 3 straight losses going into the break

We wouldn’t even be in a wild card in the East. We are just 2 games in a playoff spot in our conference.

Not even sure what to think anymore. Bad goaltending, worse defense, no depth. Just a horrendous year top to bottom

Back to the classic "there are so many problems, it's hard to choose which one to focus on" conundrum.

Bowman has now destroyed our D depth. We have a barely playable 3rd pair now, and a crappy 2nd pair too. We traded away 2 guys that at least for periods of time had good performance with our 9.25M boat anchor on the 2nd pair, so now we are left with pretty much zero options aside from just playing a badly struggling Walman with him.

The bottom 6 depth is maybe the weakest we've had in some time. Not 1 good center that can be useful in both ends of the ice against anything but the weakest competition. Drai has to try to elevate guys that would be 3rd/4th liners on any above average team every night on his wings.

Coach seems to have lost the room again, although McDavid is working his butt off every single night. So guys aren't at all responding to McDavid's leading by example either. Or maybe our players just suck too much? lol. I don't know anymore. I think it's save to say that Stuart is a bad defense and PK coach. At the very least he should be replaced.

And goaltending ... sigh. Ingram is basically our best goalie at this point, but we will keep hoping Jarry turns it around. Points for trying Bowman, but you should have made a trade last summer. Complacency kills. But at least we have no choice now but to keep trying to fix goaltending. The marriage to the Stache is over. Time for our GM to actually do work, and if he can't fix goaltending for next year, fire him into the sun.

No Cups

When you relay on the your 2 top players, and by association the top 6 and have just crap in the bottom 6 where 5x5 numbers are terrible like beyond terrible for a team this good (on paper) you have to look at coaching that Knob just don't have a lot of faith in those players to put them out. The short leash on the kids and passive aggression vets on those lines don't make for offensive opportunity.

When you have a defensive system so bad the players play too far up to make them easily exposed, somewhere down the line the defensive coach thought, okay we are an offence first team, the D has to be involved with no stay at home D watching the line. We had a guy who was defensively responsible, Kulak, and for some reason he was the sweetener for Skinner? You have Mr.9.5 who makes just horrible decisions contorting his body in positions to deflect pucks in his own net and decides to defend from his belly 8 times out of 10 you cannot have a cohesive unit.

When you decide to take your goal tending tandem and blow it to crap because it was your only bullet in your chamber because you suck at assessing pro players and decide to trade the WRONG GOALIE for Jarry who was a lateral move at best (turns out he's sub Skinner), and now vested all your hopes on a reclamation project in Ingram who has been stable (not stellar) responding to the leaky leaky D and does more work on them all from the bottom 6 to the entire D corp.. well you got problems.

GM - putrid.
Pres of Hockey Ops - putrid
Stuart- It's not just on the players our D is bad because he is bad.
McFarland- Our powerplay is colour by numbers is it not? PP2 is suspect because the head coach only relies on PP1.
Knob- relies on the top 6 and 2 specific individuals to get the scoring done, doesn't trust the bottom 6 for anything not that they have given him a reason to do anything. Tries to make what he can with the tools he's got.

The moves are on Bowman who has Chia vibes and the team hasn't been this bad since Chia. Jackson wears this as well.

Talk to Coffey, fire Stuart, give Coffey more say in the coaching staff at least in the short term and after the GM and Jackson are bounced hire the right people.

This team may not even make it to the first round, and the Pacific is the weakest division! Oh my god this is bad. (I may be overreacting here).

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

So the one positive in the last two games is that the Oilers overall outplayed the opposition for the most part, and outshot them badly in both games. That said, the breakdowns right now are pretty huge. How many breakaways did Jarry face last night? Yes, he should have had a couple of those goals, but we can't keep giving away golden opportunities again and again.

I think it's good to see some frustration from the players about where they're at. The break comes at the perfect time now. I do think that the Oilers have built the team so that it's completely reliant on the top players stepping up. Some of the comments from Derek Ryan were interesting as well, and highlighted some of the frustrations for those not on the top line.

The feeling is that any O-zone draw, any icing, any TV timeout means that the big lines are coming back out and the depth are on the bench. I think that makes a lot of sense, given that you're trying to win games and you get in to a chicken and egg thing when these guys aren't scoring goals and aren't getting much offensive push. Hard to justify giving any of those opportunities to them when they don't score on them.

It would be interesting to compare to the Sedin era Canucks, who were very focused on O-zone starts, etc. for the twins. Did they also have issues with depth contributions?

I do think if there's a bunch of guys who don't really feel they are anything beyond a replaceable cog just killing time that that could create tensions and issues.

It will be interesting to see what happens the next two weeks. I have read a couple places suggesting something is likely to change during that period of time related to the coaching staff.
