Some rumours out there that Panarin is open to a deal to the Oilers...word has it that we're on his preferred list.

If this were the case, would make for a ridiculous top-6 or top-9 no matter how the Oilers sliced it. PP would be interesting - he'd be a first line PP guy - but replacing Hyman or Nuge?

And then there's how to make it work. His cap hit is $11.643MM. At 50% retention, that's $5.822. If we send Mangiapane as part of the package, that is $3.6MM - so need to clear a little over $2.2MM more. Pickard gone helps there - but maybe you toss in Henrique too?

Now some will point out that Henrique isn't going to be attractive to the Rangers. True, but he's just a salary piece, and they may be able to flip him again before the deadline. He'd remove $3MM more off the cap.

Only other real option would be Frederic if they were willing to take that problem contract off our hands, but that's not really likely.

It would be a tremendous coup if the Oilers could find a way to pull it off.

Damn it would be nice to be able to take advantage of Drury here.

I didn't know that Drury traded away 2 2nd round picks and a player for Ty Emberson icon_biggrin

This is the kind of move you would hope Bowman could pull off. He was the guy that convinced Panarin to come to the NHL, so lots of history there.

Gotta think he takes Nuge's spot. That right handed shot on the left side would open a whole new world for our PP. And make 5v5 more interesting for one of McDavid or Drai too.

noticed Panarin is 34 now. Seems like yesterday he took rookie of the year from the now 29 year old McDavid.

It's worth noting too that Panarin's full no-move means he dictates where he goes which means that if he decides it's Edmonton, then they take what they can get from us. He's probably not as expensive as he should be given that limitation (and the fact that we no longer have Ken Holland at our helm believing you should never take advantage of another team in a trade).

We have several draft picks we could move - 1st in 2027 and 2028, 2nds the next three years, 3rds in 2026 and 2028x2. We've got some strong performing minor leaguers too. I think the team does have the assets to get this done - they just need the will and the creativity (not to mention the sales job to Panarin that this should be his destination).

Would we need to give up a serious asset to acquire a Panarin. I am guessing a package revolving around Howard might get that deal started. Not a Panarin guy and I am curious where he would fit into the Oilers roster. I feel they would be even more reliant on the top 6 and they would just move Kapanen down to the third and Roslovic to center ....

I haven't seen Breadman (Part II) play the past couple years.. so couldn't offer an opinion on him.. but he's 34 and I wouldn't trust our pro-scouts very much based on the Mangi, Fred signings.. and maybe even Walman's after recent play .. maybe a rental ?

57 points in 52 games on a team that's last in the east. I'd take him!
