Celebrini telling the refs that he wasn't actually hit with a high stick but they call the penalty anyways was a very interesting event in this game. Shows what a huge ego barrier these refs exist behind. Still can't bring themselves to admit they made a mistake when the actual player the "penalty" was caused to says it wasn't a penalty.

True. Props to him for calling it how it is. Too bad the refs don't give a crap about what rookies think. Been there done that with McDavid.

This game wasn't shown in the UK other than via NHL tv and I don't have that, but watching the post game video output with the goals in it wasn't pretty. Yet, something stood out for me, we pulled this rabbit out of the hat again like we did on Monday. It was another ugly win just as it was against Washington, we are starting to find that we'll never give up till we are back attitude that bodes well for the end of season.

The ability to win when playing ugly says a lot about the character of the team.

Knoblauch said after the game that if the ref makes the call, he can't change his mind. I'm not sure that they always stick to that rule, but he was gracious about that decision post-game.

I had a game years ago where one of my teammates collapsed on the puck and was screaming in pain. The ref was yelling at him to move the puck and since he didn't, he called a delay of game penalty. We then had to call an ambulance because he'd broken his leg on the play. When he was finally gone, the ref told us he needed a player in the box. I was apoplectic, since clearly there was a good reason he wasn't listening to the ref but was told the same thing - the ref made the initial call and he can't just rescind it after.

If I'm the Sharks coach, I'm talking to Celebrini about that though after the fact. If the refs give you a gift, you just take it. No benefit to telling them the guy was innocent.

As for the rest of the game WE WON THREE IN A ROW!!!!!

Example of a ref changing his mind after making a call

And seem multiple claims that this exact same situation happened with Ovechkin and the refs listened to him and cancelled the penalty. Can’t find video of it though.

Think these refs last night are just of the mega ego variety. Wild that Celebrini can come up and flat out say he wasn't touched with the stick and the ref just totally ignores him, then I guess tells a lie to Knob that every call is carved into stone by the hockey gods the second the ref puts the arm up?

For sure though, might not see Celebrini do that again any time soon. Maybe when he is a 35 year old vet :)

Ingram, have to give it to him. He led in three goals.(not overly his fault) but he is a goalie that doesn’t break. A lot of goalies when they let in two goals that quick into a game will get rattled and break. He was pretty solid the rest of the game only letting in one goal. He didn’t have to face a ton of challenging shots, but he was pretty solid after that first period.

Bouch quietly took over the D points lead.

On pace to bust all his career highs while playing 25 mins a night including 1st PP and PK. Trade this bum!
