EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers announced Friday they will be placing forward David Tomasek on waivers for the purpose of contract termintation.

The 29-year-old will hit the waiver wire on Sunday following the NHL's holiday roster freeze. The native of Czechia appeared in 22 games with the Oilers this season, scoring three goals and two assists.

Tomasek signed a one-year deal with Edmonton on April 2 after completing the 2024-25 season with Färjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League.

6 Cups

Disappointing end. I find that this seems to happen too often with our experienced European players. The team gave him a little push on the PP at the start of the year and he looked like he was getting chances - just a little snakebit. They didn't give him much of a shot beyond that I thought.

He was 3-2-5 in 22 games playing mostly 4th line minutes. Compare that with Lazar (2-0-2) in 19 games and I don't understand why Lazar ever is in the lineup over him. If you're looking at the third line - I thought he brought easily as much as Janmark (1-5-6 in 22 games) and Henrique (2-7-9 in 38 games). I won't even talk about Frederic. We're just married to these old grinders who do nothing well other than PK now.

I would absolutely have never played Max Jones over Tomasek too - still don't understand why he's the call-up and why he stayed up over Hutson.

The team is just stuck in this belief that the top-six is the only place to generate offence and the bottom-6 it's just a bonus, but mostly you just hope they don't get scored on. It's antiquated and it's helped to lose us the last two Stanley Cups.

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
